I missed them last time they were here. No way will I make that mistake again.
I think if there was one more sop to crusty old white men then I’d consider going.
Maybe Devo or TMBG.
Both would make it a lock.
Maybe Massive Attack.
But they’re an act short for me, which is so fine.
Should’ve for RHCP a few years ago, nearly fell asleep the show was that ■■■■
Do you dig Fear Inoculum?
I haven’t really enjoyed their music as much post lateralus.
Just feels a bit too I dunno polished?
Yeah I did, you can’t go past Pheuma and 7empest, they f’ing rock.
Tool are more polished but I think that comes with their age. They are individually exceptional musicians and you now wonder whether they are a band with exceptional musicians in it or exceptional musicians that get together as a band.
I’m not sure if that makes sense but I I hope you know what I mean. Bit like, are they a champion team or a team of champions.
There are a few tracks on there that are a little pretentious, choc trip, mockingbeat and legion. Nothing more than industrial noise. But there are plenty of bangers to make up for it.
I went to a RHCP show in the early 90’s. It was after Frusciante left, but before Navarro joined. I’ve forgotten who the guitarist was (some guy who was only with them for 5 minutes). For reasons best known to themselves (cough cough… drugs… cough cough), the band decided it would be a good idea to treat the show like a 2 hour jam session…. swapping of instruments, long improvisations, scat vocals, only snippets of recognisable songs. It was appalling… The success of Blood Sugar etc. was always going to be a hard act to follow, and Frusciante was a hard man to replace, but Jesus… they just weren’t even trying…
Other tedious shows back in the day included:
Mick Jagger (let’s face it… everyone was there for Stones songs… he duly delivered a handful, but only after an hour of his turgid solo material),
Big Audio Dynamite (can’t even remember how I came to be there, but they were dire)
Powderfinger (zzzzzzz…and comprehensively blasted off stage by the support act).
Yeah, they weren’t exactly an exciting live band, and they are a gig I walked away from, although it was at a festival so I had other options.
To be fair, they were following Oasis who had absolutely blown a roof onto the outdoor gig, and then blown it off again, so it was always gonna be a hard act to follow.
I left Powderfinger to go see The (International) Noise consiracy and never regretted that decison.
Is m pretty sure I saw these guys at a mid week, mid day show on the Lorne Foreshore with about 20 people, they played 2 songs, one of them twice.
Sony had a conference in town, and so they built this huge stage over about a week. Then they played their 3 songs in front of a handful of people and left.
Bizarre
Since we’re dredging up sh/it gigs, Dire Straits at the Myer Music Bowl was sooooooooooooo boring that I skedaddled well before stumps. Great songs (arguably imho, but anyway) do not always equal great gigs especially when the band has been on the road playing them for the past 18 months. Yet the Stones always seem to manage it and then some.
Harvest Rock lineup in Adelaide is a bit of a mixed bag.
Saturday is pretty awesome by today’s standards, but god damn that Sunday is putrid.
Hope The War On Drugs do a Melbourne sideshow.
For the inner north / middle aged folk, or anyone I guess, but mostly the inner north.
Croxton Hotel 2 Day block party.
Whilst I don’t really like the line up, I am pretty sure it’s an outdoor gig, in the carpark opposite the Croc. Which was kinda fun during the 86 Festival a couple years back.
I saw Blood Duster are back together. Playing Blacken festival near Alice Springs.
I really hope they do some capital city shows.
Civic and Antenna at the Nightcat in Oct. Hell yeah.
Nightcat seems to have changed its tune, quite literally. Seems they are booking more rock type bands
Instead of FC at the G, I saw Australian Rock Collective at Hamer Hall tonight doing Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here and Dark Side of the Moon. Fabulous decision, really worth going.
I’m proud of you for making healthy choices.
Probably not a cool kids band or some unknown indie group that had a song that peaked at 217 but last night went to Wembley Stadium and saw Coldplay with wife and daughter, was a brilliant spectacle, my daughter went too hard too early and had to have a Power Nap in the set between Yellow and Sky full of stars
You may have already seen this but if tou haven’t, give it a look. ■■■■■■■ outstanding and I reckon I’ve watched it at least 20 times. Mesmerising.
King gizzard and the lizard wizard. Orchestra show and then rock show the following night. I am going to both! Can’t wait
