Buddy must be getting on a bit. Saw him at the Palace in 1992 and he seemed old then. Could still play though!
He’s 86 years old. Fair effort to be still playing and touring!
I missed him on that trip, as l went to see John Hiatt & Robert Cray on a double bill at the Palace a week or so before Buddy played.
She who must be obeyed announced she got us tickets to see Elton John in January 23. Haven’t the heart to tell her I don’t really want to go. But at least its a weeks break in Sydney.
On a brighter note, Mick Thomas is coming back to Hobart Nov/Dec.
Forum is an unbelievable live music venue. I’m very fond of it in spite of my absolute love of small venues.
Good friend of mine is the drummer. Absolutely a beast behind the kit. He went criminally under rated for ages and he’s really come into his own.
I’m going to see Frenzal and Bodyjar this weekend and the nostalgia levels are extreme. Jane Gazza DJing too should be a cracking night.
Anyone see Charlatans at Croxton on Friday? I enjoyed it but Lady Up felt the sound quality was lacking.
I don’t like the room sound at the Croxton at all. The low ceiling is not a conducive acoustic environment. It’s got that dome up the front of the stage, but by and large the ceiling is quite low. The sound just bounces around and is boomy. The mix for every gig I’ve been too there has been dominated by drums, and the engineer is then stuck trying to boost everything to compete. Loud is definitely not better there.
I don’t ever go to a gig there through choice, but these days it seems to be one of “go-to” venues for mid-sized bands in Melbourne unfortunately.
Had tickets last time these guys played and couldn’t go. I think one of their guitarists has actually passed recently. Still, probably a good night out.
Saw Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever at the Northcote Theatre on Friday night. Awesome venue, awesome crowd and a very tight band. Best gig in years for me.
Going to see Models (3/4 of the original lineup) at the Corner next weekend. Looking forward to it. Hopefully the setlist ignores the Out of Mind Out of Sight album and everything after it…
Nice.
looking forward to a gig at this place.
Heard the acoustics weren’t great early on, but they were adding some things to improve that.
A strange comment. That album is not only their most well known, but IMO their strongest work. I would look forward to hearing as many songs off it as possible.
I got into them with the “Sacrilicious Sounds” album back in about ‘95. I had a very religious GF at the time and it had run it’s course so cranking up the SS in my car brought it to a very necessary ending. Hasn’t heard much from them for a while so I might try to get to see them
5th album. Bakes doesnt rate any album after a bands third…
I get all that. I just don’t like it at all. Sean Kelly became a passenger in his own band (he sings lead on, what, four songs?). It disappointed me so, so much after the brilliance of The Pleasure Of Your Company.
Big On Love was a decent enough lead-off single, but thereafter it left me utterly cold. Overproduced with most of their rough edges sanded-down, and way too much James Freud and James Valentine and his godawful honking. OK enough pop songs if that’s your thing, just not the Models I’d grown to love.
Earthless
Confirmed for Golden Plains, which I think is in March.
This is a band I’d really like to see, so keeping ears peeled for additional tour dates.
Bought some tkts for Live in the Vines next Feb at Rochford Winery. Jimmy Barnes, Noiseworks, Living End, Wolfmother, Baby Animals and Thirsty Merc.
After 2.5 years of holding onto my Wavves ticket. They were finally back in Australia, and I went to see them last night at the Corner hotel.
Great show. They played King of the Beach album in full, as part of its 10th (now 12th) anniversary.
I think I might have been the only person there, looking forward to hearing that album.
