The Cricket Thread (part 6) - from July 2023 (Bartholemew Frinton-Smythe, Humphrey Wigbert-Porter, and Quinten Breckenridge)

Harry Brook is a gun batsmen but doesn’t have the mindset to be a consistent high level performer at this stage. He hit two 4s and a 6 and still decided he needed to go for another massive shot. Surprise surprise he gets out. Poor batting.

Hayley Matthews doing it again.

And she is out! Reverse mozz.

What a series though. Almost beat the Aussies singlehandedly.

Wonder if they follow the practices of various armies when someone is cashiered (drummed out).

In the case of Dreyfus (the subject of Emile Zola’s J’accuse), the other officers lined up in a square and the cashiered office would have his sword snapped and some items of clothing torn or cut.

So this guy would have his egg-and-bacon tie scissored in two and his egg-and-bacon cap jumped on (or better, someone hangs a coil in it) and the crowning glory, his club jacket cut up.

Poms in trouble here. Roof gone. 7-229 in the 42nd over.

We are going to be 40- 50 odd runs short here

Kiwis have clearly learnt from the Ashes that you don’t bowl short to Wood!

Better total than it looked like it would be, but I think we are about 30 runs short.the bowlers will have to bowl very well, especially in the power play

NZ with a 4 first ball. Only 27 boundaries required to win if we have a tie after a super over.

Our bowling has been absolutely woeful, way too many boundary balls.

Our NRR is going to take a hammering with this loss as well

Yikes.
Are bonus points a thing in this?

Not sure tbh. We have been abysmal, both with bat and ball. It’s a long tournament, but we would want to hit form pretty quickly after this

It’s not great.
The way I figure it, you can afford to lose three.
Four makes it dicey.

New goal for Australia tomorrow, don’t lose as bad as this…

I honestly don’t get why they’ve messed with the Test team so much.
They were playing ODI cricket anyway…

Edit: anyway…big day tomorrow, as much as If love to stay and watch.
I’d expect NZ to knock this off in 40.

Okay, no bonus points, just NRR.
So England will wanna go hard against the minnows.

Edit: further yikes…maybe 35?

Edit: edit: going to bed. Really really.
But.
This is a big result. It’s going to be NZ between 35 and 40.
I honestly didn’t care who won as long as it was big.
I still expect India, NZ, England and Australia to make the last four, but it’s squeaky bum time for England now.
They have to win big, pray for no wash-outs, and not have a single bad day.

And NZ don’t actually look that intimidating.
I have faith in Starc, Cummins, Zampa and the bamboozler.

Warner, Marsh, Smith, Maxwell and Lab look pretty bankable.

The death of Australian cricket seems to have been announced prematurely. Again.

Injury depleted Kiwi side too.should have been a solid win. Not a good start for the Poms.
