Stokes had an operation on his knee between the World Cup and the tour to India. He was fit enough to bat but not bowl yet. There has been some footage of him rolling his arm over training so bowling isn’t far away.
Young dropped by Head at silly mid on, off an inside edge by Cummins. Not easy but he should have taken the catch. Closest we have come to taking a wicket. Lyon on after 11 overs.
Cummins now getting plenty of movement, Carey having to go a long way and dive full stretch to take the ball.
Just about all the movement is after it’s passed the batsmen though. It looks far more extravagant than useful. All it’s really doing is giving Carey a workout.
Marsh starts off with a lovely loosener which Young jumps all over and cracks to the point boundary. Help yourself!
I wonder how many overs in Pat Cummins was like yep… I think I’ve messed up.
They’re hardly racing away with it.
A wicket or two in this session, at around this current run rate, would have Australia in front in the game.
As I was saying.
Great snare by the BIG BISON, too.
Finally! Young well caught by Marsh at 3rd slip diving in front of Smith. Tried to work one to leg and got a leading edge. Starc the bowler. 1/47.
Very good catch, low down on the left side, saw it a bit late, but very safe hands. Young intent more on survival than scoring. Williamson to the crease in his 100th test.
Sorry, I missed it… what did you say?
Lol. Common potators curse strikes, talking about how organized Latham looks, the very next ball Josh gets a fine edge, straight through to Carey. NZ 2/84. Ravindra in on what looks like a good batting pitch.
Not thinking about it at all yet I would imagine.
They’d take that at lunch!
Welcome IT!

NZ 2/84.
2/63, don’t think they have reached the 80’s yet.
They might, but now that Josh has hit the spot he might other ideas about a lunch score. The bowling has looked a bit more potent since Starc came back on.
Don’t know who the female comms is for NZ but she calls the game as badly as BJ does.
It’s at least got close to parity now in terms of the expectations when sending a team in. You want the pitch to be doing plenty to hand up the initiative and lock yourself in to batting last. Albeit it’s not going to break down massively like the subcontinent pitches.
It’s doing a little but not frightening by any means. Pretty evenly poised at present. A lot hinges on this partnership here. Their best batsman and their heir apparent vs a very accomplished bowling attack. You love to see it.
