The Cricket Thread (part 8) - from Jan 2024

There are a couple of fairly simple solutions to doctoring of wickets

  1. Neutral curators - never going to happen with India footing the bills
  2. Give the away team the choice of batting or bowling

I honestly think the best thing would be the icc is in charge of preparing the practice wickets for touring teams, where they best replicate what they will encounter once the real stuff starts

But they would never spend the money doing it

Doctor the pitches to suit home conditions…it’s fine. Just don’t sook it up when your home team loses.

And the Windies game they deliberately chose a lifeless KR deck and rolled it to within an inch of its life so that it was completely different to what they were going to get a few days later at AO

Not as cute as a whinging Pom who came in here with a massive chip on his shoulder after watching his team get steam rolled.

Anyway let’s just remember that we played India in England last year on a non doctored wicket for either side and we won. Which makes us world test champions.

Also I seem to recall we beat India at home in the World Cup final that they couldn’t possibly lose.

Someone made a wise crack, and I made one back

You made a few smart remarks, now I’m replying

Don’t dish it out if you can’t cop it

Makes sense when you’re coming up against powerhouses like Pakistan and the Windies…

I can cop it, you just like to whinge though.

You clearly can’t.

Your whining that I said Australia make concrete like pitches for touring teams, you were wrong- which I have pointed out and you can’t admit it

Never did, just disagreed with you and still do.

Anyway I am off to bed, enjoy the rest of your day of whinging.

I enjoyed the Windies fightback and look forward to seeing how our top order goes on this deck.

Nah your just being a ■■■■■, you threw out a barb and now I’m throwing one back and you can’t handle it

Letting a minnow full of no names pile on 200+ more runs after being 5 down is incredibly disappointing.

Zim 4/11 chasing the Aussies 296. I’m going to call this one.

Which is still a huge error on our part imo. India isn’t just about the pitches. It’s the overall conditions, humidity, atmosphere, sleep patterns, bowlers rhythm etc. I still think we should get on the ground and play some preliminary matches.

And I loved that Pakistan managed to squeeze in a two day match against a Vic 11 between Tests in the recent tour. It sends themselves a message that they’re here to learn and compete.

Of course they are. England named three spinners just coz they’re spinners , not coz they’re Test standard.

Pretty much ,I still rate Rehan as a talent. But our cupboard for spinners is pretty much empty

Wow.

They used to call John Eales “Nobody” because Nobody’s perfect. They could give Pat the same nickname.
