The little dog would have been exhausted. I gather it’s security camera footage.
Yeah the Labrador

How are the sleepless night going @Klawdy?
Has your canine friend settled into the routine yet?

Terrible.

But that was because I’ve just finished 2 night shifts.

Little man settled in really quickly. We are doing the crate thing and he curls up as soon as he’s in it.

But far out! He’s trying to rip us to shreds with those needles. My poor daughter is terrified of him when he gets in the nipping mood.

When do they lose these teeth?

Soon I hope.

Our Aussie gets in manic moods periodically during a day. They only last 5 or 10 minutes each time before she crashes but geez, you need your wits about you. I’ve got a couple of bright red marks on my nose where I’ve worn lunges at the face. I also have a long red scratch on the back of one leg where she raked her claws when she jumped at me.

Those teeth are like razors!!

Incidentally, I had week one of puppy school this week. Something valuable out of it which has definitely helped with our furry friend…

When they start nipping at you, don’t move your hand/arm/whatever they’ve got hold of and make either a) a bellowing short ā€œbarkā€ or b) a short high-pitched yelp. The former is designed to imitate the sound of mother dog when her pups get too rough with her. The latter is designed to imitate the sound puppies make when they’re playfighting and get a bit rough with each other. Both serve to startle the pup and it will back off with the nipping, either completely or gradually. You then need to make sure you verbally congratulate them each time the biting stops.

One of the instructors was a small woman but she had a booming ā€œbarkā€ with which she had Macy behaving within a few seconds.

You initially feel like a bit of a twat ā€œbarkingā€ or ā€œyelpingā€ like a dog, but it’s definitely working. After just one session, she’s been more behaved. Still not complete, but a vast improvement.

Another thing… when they get completely out-of-hand, have a naughty room - a small room (not where they sleep) which has very little in it which they can be shut in alone for a few minutes. They recommended a toilet (obviously remove towels, the bog-roll, dunny-brush and any other potential ā€œtoysā€) because it’s small, relatively dark and has only a small/no window. Apparently, they really don’t like being shut-in and quickly associate that room with consequences. We’ve not had to exercise that option, but it may yet come into play…

Rocky has been in for surgery today to remove part of his soft palate which is in his throat. It is longer than it should be and has causing him to cough and hack when he is drinking, eating barking and so on. If it is left like that it can cause some serious complications when he gets older so need to get it done. It all went well and he is recovering at home now. The vet is not 100% sure it will fix all his symptoms but will see how he goes. The biggest concern the next couple of days is to keep him relaxed as we don’t want him to get too much swelling in the area as he will have trouble breathing and will need to go to emergency. Rocky has had a pretty tough go at it lately so hopefully this will be the end of it. I’m a bit concerned considering how many times he has been in for surgery lately and he gets so excited to go into the vets. I’m worried he might be addicted to the morphinešŸ˜†. I will camp out in the lounge with him tonight to keep an eye on him the next couple of days. He is sleeping at my feet now.

Hoping you’ve both had a good night & that Rocky recovers quickly. He’s such a beautiful happy boy. Keep us posted.

Thanks mate. Rocky slept well. The vet gave him alot of meds so he was a bit out of it. He can’t have any dry food for a week so I just did some shopping so he will be eating home cooked meals and will be eating like a king for a week. He hasn’t lost his appetite and just had roast chicken for breakfast.

If you do get into see him could you do a blitzer a favour and ask if he knows anyone good in Sydney?

On dustmite/hay fever sneezing type allergies. Wash and the. Sunshine on all your winter clothes , bedding and blankets when you pull them out for the colder months help.

Also Fexo is the only decent drug available(but I reckon u already know both of these things!)

Just as an aside I have had NO hayfever at all since we moved to Qld just over 4 years ago.
The magic cure that Dr Siemensma put me on to was Qvar taken nasally (using a baby bottle teat over the end of the inhaler) and the top cut off which goes in your nose! (Qvar is like a ventolin dispenser).
Family members started on it too & it worked for them also.

Yeah my allergies got better moving north.

Does Qvar require a prescription and do you only take it with symptoms?

Yes it requires a prescription & you take it every day (morning & night from memory) for the season.
I’m not home now but will be in about an hour. Pretty sure I’ve got some info on it from the Dr.

@handypoint This is a photo of the directions for Qvar use that I got from Dr Siemensma.
I also had the desensitising injection regime.
