Better for it to be over your roof than passing north of you.

How you going up there ? Starting dry ?

5 years ago I wouldn’t have believed that.

But now nothing surprises me

I don’t use FB, but it doesn’t surprise me. Seems many people don’t understand that authorities need to advise and plan for worst case scenarios which typically don’t eventuate, but could.

Was listening to some interviews on the ABC this morning.
Few born and bred locals and a bloke who’d moved up from Canberra last year (and had never experienced flooding). Pick which of those 2 had a strong note of anxiety in their voice, and which one was saying they didn’t know what the fuss was about.

I’m guessing the Canberra bloke but could be a trick question. He’d be dreaming of the stunning Autumn in Canberra right now

Close… again… but l don’t smoke.

There’s been light rain and squalls so far today. The wind is picking up once again. Tonight is expected to be a wild one. Last night was pretty wild tbh.

How is this the only thread on this?

Got absolutely smashed with wind and rain at Mermaid Beach from around 6 till about an hour ago. Power still on luckily but the winds have somewhat dropped off for the time being.

That was something. The roaring sound of wind and horizontal / torrential rain. Best way to describe it, imagine the biggest wind gust you’ve experienced, imagine it lasts for 5-6 hours without letting up! It was a constant and sustained pummelling.

My building was shaking (vibrating), constant sounds of debris, metal fences smashing into things outside. The shaking feeling felt like one of those earthquakes we’ve had in Melbourne a few years ago, but it kept shaking. You’re sitting there for hours just hoping a window doesn’t blow in or something.

Now, wind speeds still around 60-80km still here, rain to intensify. It’s another day staying inside.

So far not too bad in Ashmore. Being a few KMs from coast seems to help.

Seen worse storms in a teacup.

So glad that the worst of the wind is over for you. We’ve been so lucky on the Sunshine Coast. Plenty of rain expected today but we’ve dodged the strong winds.
Stay safe.

it’s wild the difference, got a mate in Brisbane city who’s said it’s a hard rain, strong wind and that’s it and a mate in Burleigh who has lost his garage and is under half a meter of water
