The Glorious Gold Coast

SEQ is populated along a fairly long narrow strip mostly coastal.
Normal weather events do tend to impact differently along that strip.
This severe event may have followed that script although I’ve never heard of so many homes being without power before.

Glad to hear that everyone is safe. I’ve seen photos of the erosion of Mermaid Beach. Is that fixable?

I think the answer is in the short term yes, but in the long term as storm events and sea level become more severe we’re totally farked.

yep, climate change is pushing cyclones further south so we should expect more of these in the near future - might not be so crazy to start expecting them as far south as byron

To sydney?

Anyone got an idea of how I can get a live photo of a specific location on the Gold Coast?

I’m after photos of Currumbin Creek. Probably not currently a creek.

Yeah, but we regard it as a big plus for Victoria.

average IQ goes up for Vic without us doing anything.

And for Queensland.

Yeah, how many times can these people rebuild

This is the government agency funding buy outs of private homes

Trouble is, according to a report I’ve heard, the houses in Lismore vacated after the last floods have been left empty and homeless people are understandably squatting in them, so that when the floods return there’s a whole new cohort of poor families being flooded out.

Well that’s another problem again.

Can’t see these events getting any less frequent, or intense. Fortunately this has been on the lower scale for wind. But the water…

The airlines stupidly tried to get a heap of flights into Brisbane and the Gold Coast tonight and all were aborted or diverted

Morning.

Well, that could have been a lot worse. A lot of wind but not as much rain as was previously forecast over Coolangatta/Tweed Heads and the coastal strip.

The Levee is predicted to hold in Lismore.

Our kids were due to fly to Brisbane airport on Friday, so re-booked it for arrival at 10:10am today.

The flight an hour before theirs was cancelled, but Virgin website says Brisbane airport is due to open at 9:30am, so it looks like they might have fluked the earliest flight through.
