SEQ is populated along a fairly long narrow strip mostly coastal.
Normal weather events do tend to impact differently along that strip.
This severe event may have followed that script although I’ve never heard of so many homes being without power before.
yep, climate change is pushing cyclones further south so we should expect more of these in the near future - might not be so crazy to start expecting them as far south as byron
Trouble is, according to a report I’ve heard, the houses in Lismore vacated after the last floods have been left empty and homeless people are understandably squatting in them, so that when the floods return there’s a whole new cohort of poor families being flooded out.
Well, that could have been a lot worse. A lot of wind but not as much rain as was previously forecast over Coolangatta/Tweed Heads and the coastal strip.
Our kids were due to fly to Brisbane airport on Friday, so re-booked it for arrival at 10:10am today.
The flight an hour before theirs was cancelled, but Virgin website says Brisbane airport is due to open at 9:30am, so it looks like they might have fluked the earliest flight through.
