The Glorious Gold Coast

the ferverent opposition to the burleigh-coolangatta light rail is a weird one. “i don’t want a noisy tram replacing the calming daily symphony of 60,000 cars.”

on the other hand, most residents will die died of natural causes during the 38 years (probably) it will take to build so there’s no payoff to the constant roadworks

You’re all grumpy and angry in Victoria (forgive me if you aren’t!!). Don’t blame you for that. You have the highest taxes, highest unemployment, youth crime in the cbd rampant and the protest capital. And I can be sure that traffic and congestion in Melbourne is much worse. Division, anger and polarisation. And your weather is totally ■■■■■… Still wintry there.

The Goldy. People are happier, you can’t compare the vibe. Laid back. Much better weather. Never cold, warm everyday. People moving here in droves love the lifestyle.

Gods country.

Agree. It confuses me. They didn’t want the light rail in Surfers 15 years ago, now it’s widely popular and a vital transport vehicle that’s popular.

lol it’s not even close. the entire brisbane to tweed heads corridor is 1000 times more fked than anything anywhere in melbourne.

Yep, that’s what all our data shows too.

Funnily enough Adelaide currently is actually slightly worse due to the South Rd works.

I have a friend who lives in southport and works in north brisbane. she leaves between 4-5am to beat the traffic on the M1 from GC to briztown, so she doesn’t waste an extra hour on the road.

How Glorious is that?

How’s the drive home?

I think there’s a pretty solid argument(given migration patterns), that a metro project between Brisbane and the Gold Coast should have taken priority over Sydney and Melbournes projects.

It’s an absolute bin fire up there.

I should’ve noted the exception to my read on congestion. If you’re travelling between Brisbane / Gold Coast on M1 (I don’t so I don’t encounter it often), traffic is awful.

I use the GC Highway / Bermuda Street to travel up and down the coast and I find these still to be ok.

If you leave Brisbane at 2pm you can usually beat the crush. After that it gets slow.

We regularly visit Broadbeach Waters, as my wife has a permanent booking there. She finishes at 3.30 and then we have a 2 hour drive home to near North Lakes. It is about 115 kms. The M1 is hit and miss at that time of day, there is always going to be congestion, it is only a question of how long it will last.

Thank you, Captain Jack! You alone, are a refreshing voice of reason, amongst a handful of partisan Victorians (and one embittered Ewok [who always sounds like sb. stole his lunch]) looking to slanderize the Gloriousness of this shining GGC, jewel of the North.

The Glorious, totally not gridlocked, M1 super motorway.

Nice try @Nexta …but that’s M1 near the the border.

This is what it normally looks like:

That pic just caught it at a bad angle. Bad lighting too…it’s what people in the business call ‘selective framing’…
