The Great Blitz Album Survey…Favourite Albums Across The Years…The 60s

It’s allowed…In 1969 which is the year it was released.

You have room for 1 vote in 1969 so do you just want me to move it there?

I’ll do it.

I’ve got a 7” ep with just these 4 songs from Beatles For Sale. Don’t need any more than that:

I’ll follow the Sun is nice

And Kansas City is rockin…

But yeah. For Sale and Let It Be are my least favourite Beatle albums. Oh and I dont think I even own the first one.

I hate the idea of naming a favourite album,
but if I had to, this would be it.

I have a far harder time naming a second. Electric Ladyland is my number one by a long stretch.

Yeah - that was all down to the success of the Beatles. And the genius of the Beatles.

Before them, most pop/rock&roll singers and groups played songs written by other people. The Beatles turned that around and by “Rubber Soul” only played songs they composed themselves. [I digress but that also was the first album where the Beatles took over total creative control of the music, the production and the cover art. And to put things in perspective, Day Tripper and We Can Work It Out were recorded around the same time, but were left off the album and issued as singles. Most other bands if they had those songs would consider them their crowning achievement, but the songs didn’t even make it to Rubber Soul ]. The Beatles issued #1 hits like a grindstone throws out sparks.

Also all albums before Sgt Peppers were just collections of songs. The rise of the concept album, and albums in general is also due to the Beatles.

To be clear, I am not a Beatles fan boy so much as trying to impart the significant change that they made on the world. Most people who were not there in the '60s would not understand or appreciate their impact otherwise.

Asking my old man about the early 60s, he has a great jazz collection.

Mid to late 60s is sorted, great period in music.
