Does anyone here suffer from tendinitis/tendinosis from playing guitar? I’m an ongoing learner who is struggling for continuity due to pain in the upper forearm. It’s a ■■■■■ to shake off. I’ve had it for around 12 months. I see an osteo who has some success with it but just when you think it’s gone it starts hurting again after a lengthy practice. You don’t know you’ve aggravated it until the next day either which makes it hard to gauge if you’re overdoing it.
Yeah that does happen at first. Mine went away after a while. Tbh can’t remember what I did but I also got a ganglion in my wrist as well.
Doesn’t help that I have 49 year old tendons trying to get all intricate after years of nothing but masturbation but it’s truly frustrating to not be able to get any momentum in my ‘learnings’.
My left arm will get sore if I play a fast barre chords type song. I’ll notice it once I stop or relax but when I first started I could feel it the next day still. If I notice it during a song I’ll just play less strings and remove the barre.
Strumming hand never gets sore though.
I used to get this too, had totally forgotten til I read this. I don’t play enough for it happen now and mostly use open chords anyway
Drilling holes before tinting and finishing the body. Brought it home for that as they don’t spray in the workshop, so I’m on my own for the challenging stage Getting close now though, can almost hear it.
Not too shabby! What are you expecting the weight to be?
This usually happens because of a combination of incorrect posture, wrist/hand/arm angle & too much pressure being applied due to technique. Do you take lessons? A teacher would be able to assist you.
I did when I started and for years afterwards it would re-occur.
Shorter play sessions. Rest at the first sign - don’t try and play through it. Stretching that tendon before and after playing (outstretched straight arm, closed fist, wrist cocked downwards, pull hand towards you). Getting your guitar properly set up (if I jump on a guitar with a high/poor action it will come back at me in a flash). Lighter string gauges. Posture. Technique. Angling the guitar neck higher - think classical player. Holding the guitar up higher - think Beatles rather than Metallica. Changing neck geometry and scale length can help. Chord substitution (if you have a song that is all barre chords swap some of them with open chords, utilise a capo if necessary depending on key, play the notes/strings that count the most to get the sound and relax/mute the ones that merely augment) - you’ll get most of the sound but build in some rest points for those stressed tendons.
It won’t magically go away. I was managing it for many years before I realised it was really no longer a factor. You have to play the long game. What will work best for you will depend on a very large number of factors.
Edit: lots of good suggestions already by others
Good question. The Bunya pine body isn’t heavy. I’m guessing it will be close to average weight for a tele. Will find out in a couple of weeks.
Had to give it a like simply cos I’ve never seen anything like it. What are you using for the neck & fretboard?
How’d you make it? 3D printer?
Yes
Guitar help needed.
I’m in the market for a Gibson SG.
Do i just buy the new SG Standard ‘61 for around 4K.
Or do I try and find an older one? if so where? and what model around the same price?
Any advice would be great.
What’s the attraction in the '61 over the Standard? Pups? Anything else?
