I think you get a get a fair upgrade for the small amount of extra cash.
But that’s what I’m tossing up.

Finally finished, apart from a final set-up and correction of wiring (tone control and coil splitter on the Hot Rails pup not working). Not playing it until those things are done, hopefully tomorrow.
Incredible effort, looks legit
Great effort. I’ve enjoyed following your progress. Good luck with it now.
Looks stunning. Good job.
Hey mate . Try and find 61 reissue from 90- 2004. They are around that price.
The new ones from 2021 on are good but play 5 or 6 first
Having not much experience with humbuckers, I have to comment on the SD HotRails in the bridge slot. Compared with other HBs I have (on Gibson Nighthawk and Maton MS2000), this really cooks. Single coil (tone ■■■■ pulled up), it is a fairly faithful tele tone (in balance with the neck pup), though not quite as bright and twangy as a standard single coil tele. In the 2 coil position (tone ■■■■ down), there is a lot more gain - loud and dirty. It’s like cranking the amp from 5 to 7-8 with the push of a switch. Love it.
PS: the bridge and neck pups seem to have been accidentally wired out of phase. Result in the middle switch position is relatively quiet, but extra quacky. I will probably set this right by reversing the wiring on the neck pup, but it’s interesting in any case. It’s a switch position I rarely use anyway.
Picked up a Marshall Origin 20H on friday.
I planned on getting the Marshall SV20H, but after a lot of research, i thought I’d spend just half the dough and get the Origin.
Very happy with it.
I wanted the Oigin vertical cab to go with it, but there doesnt seem to be any around at the moment. So for now, I pluggedit into my Orange 2x12 cab. And it sounds really good.
Im currently on holidays, so Ive been in the shed spraying huge thick lashings of Fuzz everywhere. It loves pedals, so its been wah, univibe and fuzz galore.
Lots of fun.
Decided I didn’t like the vintage 3 saddle bridge that was supplied by the school. Couldn’t get enough adjustment, though I think I either made the neck 1-2mm short, or set the bridge too far forward. The Gotoh 6 saddle bridge is better, but the saddles are still pulled all the way back for correct string length.
Got my hands on a vertical cab for my origin 20. Runs a touch bright, but very happy. Ive read greenbacks or creambacks go very well with the origin 20s, so I may put some in down the track.
Picked myself up two guitars at the EOFY sales.
Gibson SG and a Fender Jag. Both are amazing to play. Actually walked in to get a Fender Jazzmaster but the Jag felt so good.
Pics??
I love SGs.
Oh man…both are beautiful
I love the SG. I’ve had a Epiphone SG for 5 years but weirdly it wouldn’t stay in tune.
Then I released the neck was bending and it just snapped off.
So I said ■■■■ it. I’m getting a real one.
As for the Jag I haven’t played it yet. I’m still unsure.
In the shop it sounded incredible (not when I was playing!) but I’m unsure about the neck length. It’s 1 1/2 inches shorter that the Jazzmaster.
Man, thats bizarre.
Ive never seen that before. My limited experience with epiphones have been mostly positive. But Gibsons can also suffer from quality control issues.
I used to have a 74 Gibson SG, but sold it for like 1700 pre pandemic, because I needed the money. That era of SG have gone up to like 5k to 6k now. I loved it. Thats the one piece of gear Ive gotten rid of I’ll never forgive myself for. It literally keeps me up at night.
I miss you, Brown Hornet…
Damn. That’s crushing.
