The Guitar Thread

I am SG-curious
Never had one. Don’t remember playing one. But currently lack a humbucker option.

Go and play one. A lot of fun.

Gibbons are notorious for headstocks being detachable.

A mate of mine had an Ibanez SG copy that I loved playing. Very curious about getting an SG some day.

SGs are a great guitar. I’m a Les Paul guy, but my friend has a SG which I’ve played. It is much lighter than the LP, more comfortable to play sitting down, has better upper neck access and looks like RnR. Great guitar.

Yeah Ive seen a fair few with headstock breakage. But not at the body.

Did the intonation on this one for a friend. Very light, thin body.

Hi everyone.

I am currently in bed recovering from COVID and have been spending far too much time on Bomberblitz these past 48 hours. I thought I would share a photo of this guitar of mine to see if you had any opinions on it.

I bought this guitar in 2017 at the Music Swop Shop. It was advertised as a 1985 Fender Strat HSS. However, it was about half the price of the other Fender Strats, so I assumed it was significantly modified or had unoriginal parts. The neck is probably the real deal, since it has a Fender Made in Japan brand on the headstock. However the body has the jack input on its side, whereas most Fender Strats have the jack input on the face of the body.

Does anyone know if any Fender Strats were made with the jack input on the side of the body?

It doesn’t really matter to me if the body isn’t actually a Fender - I have a few guitars, including some moderately expensive ones, and this guitar is by far my favourite one to play. I am just interested in knowing this guitar’s story.

It is definitely heavily modified. Most humbuckers put into strats are at the bridge position. I dont think Ive ever seen that before. And its either missing a volume or a tone nob. Strange. Theres a floyd rose which may have been stock for a special sort of MIJ run and it also has a locking nut which Id suggest is also a mod. Im unaware of strats ever having a different spot for the input jack.

On face value it looks like someone purchased a 80s MIJ strat and turned it into a classic 80s style Super Strat.

Just had a quick squiz on google

Looks like you have a modified MIJ Fender Contemporary Strat.

Two nobs, and the jack is in the same position as yours.

I’m loving the sound Dom Delonge is getting from his Signature Gibson ES 333.

Has anyone played one? Or has one? Or the Epiphone version?
Or has anyone played the Gibson ES 335?

The Tom De Longe siginture guitar is crazy expenseive now.

I’ve seen Teles with humbucker in the neck position and conventional for the rest. But I’ve only seem a HSS Strat with the bucker in the bridge. Cool.

The ES 335 is my dream guitar. If money were no object I would buy one tomorrow along with a rosewood Telecaster.

I have played one and I find the neck a little thin for my hand.

I find the Gibson SG is like playing a plank of wood.
