Ah Kak !
So you want to keep Weideman??
I think 7-8 feels like the right number
And would look way different to most peopleās list.
The 4 no brainers are Hepp, Hunter, Weed and Goldy
Then the next 4 most likelies are Tex, Baldwin, Hind and Setterfield
Thatās 8 that arenāt in Scottās plans, maybe throw in a trade or two if someone like Sheil finds a new home.
The people wanting half a dozen best 22 players axed are going to be disappointed.
Iām weird, part of me wants to keep Goldy. Great mentor for our young rucks, a good guy for them to train against and Vigo aināt ready for the AFL yet if one of them goes down. But I also donāt trust Brad not to pick him over Bryan.
The rest of your list makes complete sense which makes me wonder if itās actually 9-10. Iād ideally like us to also trade a couple of clear best 22 players out this year in that 23-27yo age bracket and get more picks in the top 35 of this draft.
Peter Wright?
Any list without Jake Kelly is not a list I can subscribe to.
Also, Goldy is clearly staying on.
Oh forgot him definitely not lol
Itll take atleast 3 years for the club to turn the list over, if they do decide to take that route. Iām not too confident on that tho.
club needs to cut deep⦠i think 10-14 position is about right next year thats by playing kids not same old garbageā¦then look to 2026-27 for finals with a team that can challenge not just make up numbers
Scotts improve the list comments are concerning. There is not talented spine and no corpse of a forward line worth rebuilding around. The midfielders generally suck, we cannot move the ball out of our d50 to f50. So what improvement is there for the list other than wholesale change?
Iāve given up listening to Scott. I donāt think it offers any insights.
B: McGrath McKay? ?
HB: Redman Ridley ?
C: Martin Merrett Duursma?
HF: Perkins? Caddy? Langford
F: ? Draper? ?
R: Bryan? Durham? Caldwell?
Parish? Jones? ? ?
I think weāve got about that much of a premiership 22 worked out. Three definites, three probables, ten maybes and six no ideas.
The list needs more refreshing this year, we need to try get as many picks above Kako match as possible, offloading player with picks to upgrade is required. But i think our players are rightly valued lower by other clubs.
I agree with you, but he seems cemented in Brads 22 when others arenāt.
Is any team scared of that?
Iām not sure that thereās been a player on essendonās list that would even remotely frighten an opposition player since Lovett Murray retired. Nick Kommer maybe? Had a bit of ā ā ā ā about him
Holy moly thatās glass half full.
Essington is scared of that.
You just need to read it with glass half empty eyes.
Consider the timeline. Caddyās a maybe, but probably not as a star until heās 24/25. Once Caddyās 25, Merrettās 34, Redman and Langford are 33, McGrath, Ridley, and McKay are all 32. So all of those guys probably drop down a category or two. Could still be at the same level, probably will have dropped off a little, might be cooked and gone.
Then consider the six no ideas. If they have to be good premiership quality players for it to be a premiership 22, thatās a huge number of players to find. The six players in the combined probable and definite category took us nine years to put together. If it takes us nine years to find another six, the first six will all be in retirement homes.
If the maybes are 50/50, then thatās functionally another 5 no ideas, taking us up to 11.
So where does that put us, glass half empty, if we just assume the quality assessment is correct? Well it means we arguably have half the players necessary for a premiership (6 definitely missing, and another 5 maybes who donāt make it). But for some of those players to reach the point where they transition from maybe to probable, some of the existing definites and probables disappear. So in order to have a premiership 22 we just need to find over half of a premiership 22, and do so in maybe half the time itās taken us to find half a dozen players so far.
It only there was a strategy you could employ that enabled us to take the half dozen over a three year period, setting you up to find the other missing pieces over the next decade.
