If James remains and I believe he will, for 2016, I reckon he’ll be around for years thereafter.
What percentage of the task would people say having the utmost respect & determination to give their all for you from the players, is, in the equation when it comes to the coaching?
I think it’s the largest proportion of it by far, and I don’t think any coach in the history of the game would surpass the level our guys have of it for their guy.
It is obviously important, but if you can’t coach its pretty much irrelevant. There are also question marks over whether it is happening. Note that there have been coaches in the past who have been loved by their players - but have been failures.
I love the way you all pretend that ASADA/WADA never happened
we never lost any draft picks
we haven’t got a list full of injured and stressed players
we haven’t got the media baying for our coach to be sacked - because the AFL want it
yep - we’re just like any other team
Leaving Hird aside, because honestly if you want to discuss his coaching throw a virtual (if not hypothetical) brick around here, how do you rate our Assistant Coaches?
Are they unsackable for some reason?
I’ve got no idea if any of them are good or otherwise. I’m not sure how anyone can really evaluate the worth of assistant coaches unless they are working directly with them. I’m not even sure if Hird can coach (due to mitigating factors), and the public has a lot more information at their disposal to assess the performance of a senior coach than they do line coaches.
Then…doesn’t that make Peeto’s statement a bit silly?
Ignoring Windy Dill’s statements, Peeto’s statement makes perfect sense. You’re not going to get good new assistants for one year deals with WADA hanging over the list unless they’re so desperate to be assistant coaches that nobody else would have them. To get good assistants they’ll need deals so that if WADA does occur, they have a chance to show their worth with a real list.
However, given there is every chance Hird won’t continue past 2016, you would be in the position of a new coach coming in and being saddled with the assistants or we have to make huge payouts.
Which would be foolish. I wouldn’t put it past this administration, but sacking all the assistants except the head coach would be pretty stupid.
Right, so you disagree with WD.
Hypothetically you wouldn't improve our assistant coaches unless you could also sack Hird.
Glad it's not your call.
Ah, Windy Dill is saying that Peeto's comment that removing ALL of the assistant coaches without also replacing the head coach isn't smart. I'm agreeing with that. However, my reasons as above is that it would either lock us into a bad position, set us up to get garbage assistants, or set us up to pay out heaps of money.
It only works if Hird coach’s beyond 2016 or his replacement is happy with the assistants. I wouldn’t give good odds on either occurring.
I’m not saying you don’t replace any of the assistants. I’m sure some of them will be let go, and obviously we already need to replace Bassett. But replacing them all and keeping the head coach is foolish.

Is that seriously what you got from my post?
I got the opposite of that from your post.
I italicised and everything.

lol’kinwut?
That came out looking angrier than it was intended!
So we have lost 9 out of our last 10 games. If we lose the next 4 and I think we will, that makes it 13 out of the last 14.
Saga or no saga that’s not a great record.
Watching the coaches segment on EFC website after each game I get the impression only Harvey understands the reasons for our ■■■■ performances. He also gives good insights into what we must fix. The rest of them…Pfft
Love the way he has fought the good fight against the AFL and Asada on his own but sheesh…
I’m ready for a smashing guys but I think we need to get rid of the lot of them. New coach with his own handpicked team
The only thing that ■■■■■■ me off should Hirdy finish at seasons end is that the media and AFL will think they have won.
My reasons for him finishing are results and that the club needs to put this mess behind it. The media and public will never let it go if Hirdy stays…rightly or wrongly
Wouldn't surprise me if Hirdy walked, honestly how much more can this guy take?
I think he can back from it, but geez he looked fried in the box last week.
It looked like he was thinking the things I was yelling at the television.
‘Well, that was ■■■■.’
‘Faaaaaaaaaark me.’
‘Here’s an idea, kick it to someone wearing the same colours.’
‘Right, of course they pull that one out of their ■■■■.’
‘Oh, god-■■■■■■■-damnit, really?’

Nah, tides turning, I even just had one of our own who was rabid on Hird & wanted crazy Bomber turn around completely on the back of the 1296 page release.
It’s done us the world of good. This guy is a typical Herald Sun loadmouth, and he was all about “So Thompson bought Dank via Robertson into the club, not Hirdy !” and “That Fitzfuckric prick’s gotta go”.
