KNEW … you meant to say knew what it takes. They don’t anymore and all they have now are memories of how great it was back in my day.
I got no issue if the club wants to celebrate them, but unless they are willing to put their hand up to go and help, it’s not the job of the coach or players to have to sit around a campfire singing kumbaya with past players to allow them to have some warm fuzzy feels.
again living in the past of semi professional footballers, is not going to help the club as a whole move out of the 90’s and into a professional football organisation, who has no recent glory to hang their hats on and needs to live on memories of 26 plus years ago.
4 years is going to come around quick smart, and we are a long way off even winning a final in that time. That will be 30 years since the 2000 team. again unless they want to put their hand up and run for a job (which they would no doubt get down to blind loyalty to a succussful player) then they should remain in the past, other than celebrations of their deeds in the appropriate time and manner.
A coach with Horse’s pedigree and stature in the game isn’t going to openly declare his hand - at least not at this early stage. That does not at all mean he needs convincing.
I’m certain there will be several ‘all in’ candidates. Hopefully we put them all through the hoops and select the best candidate. That’s all we want to see.
It’s nothing to do with living in the past or an expectation that past players should put their hand up to help. It’s about recognition, appreciation and building culture and history.
Even if (and I don’t think Welsh will be tapping anyone on the shoulder by the way) Longmire is tapped on the shoulder by the club I would not think for a split second that he would accept and not be ‘all in’.
Love him or loathe him, Brad Scott was ‘all in’. He was head coach for 4 years with another year to run and wasn’t going to quit. You might not agree with some of his method but if he wasn’t all in he would have quit years ago.
He was interested in the job a few years ago, and we didn’t return his call.
The fact there is a guy of his talent and knowledge, who is excited by the challenge of turning Essendon around….. it’s something that is hard to ignore. Especially for someone who has no previous link to the club.
Leigh Matthews just said on 3aw the process is a load of b.s he has been a part of a lot of them. Mark Neeld was a great interview and turned out terrible.
The most important thing is to ask all those that have worked with the coach and they’ll all say ‘yeah he’s good’ but read between the lines on the information you get.
The witch also said that a former bomber premiership player recommended Enright to the club.
Agree I’d rather the club go out and go this is the qualities we want from a coach let’s go out and approach the coaches with those qualities and go from there
