By 2 drafts you meant this years main and rookie? But even then ssp hasn’t happened. We also watch kids training with other clubs
Still think we are woefully exposed in the ruck. Would have preferred to have taken a look at a few of them
Nah, I honestly believe that the ruck position is severely overrated unless you have someone like Max Gawn.
Do we think that the Scott brothers don’t rate rucks at all? Geelong have barely had a decent ruck in years…..
Couldn’t agree more, just need to look at the last few premiership rucks
In the last 12 months we have taken 5 state league players - Edwards, McMahon, Smartt, May and Blakiston. Last year we had one of the last picks in the 24 draft in Johnson, Cat B in Nguyen and a rookie in Day-Wicks and this year Huss a late pick and now an Irishman.
Might be at a point where we have explored a lot of speculative picks/kids and just settling on some experience with Setters isn’t the end of the world.
And we’ve lost a stack of experience with Goldy, Shiel, Draper & Lav out + Martin gone for season
Possibly

Think thats a fair point. Felt that way with Edwards getting signed in April this year post AC. See the footy landscape in Sept and then make a list call

Idd add Saad early in the year then playing Lual as the wing all year. ADW off the back of a few games but preferring Hobbs all year. We should have at least been comparing those players at the end of the year for how deserved a contract, not being forced to cut uncontracted players because we’d gone super early on giving others extensions. Nobody walks coming for Saad or ADW.
We had to resign Edward’s after bringing him across from paid employment in Perth. If we hadn’t resigned him then the chances of getting an interstate SSP in future would disappear !
The list is still screaming out for another small forward, seems odd how the club just doesn’t get it.
I’d say the more screaming need is another small defender more than a small forward. Beyond Nguyen and McGrath (who there is talk of potentially playing more midfield next year) there’s not much else to speak of.

Do you think when we invited Tom Edwards to train with us for a spot he thought for one second “I’m not sure about pursuing my dream of AFL with Essendon, not after how quickly they delisted Henry Crauford. Maybe I’ll just stay a school teacher.”
Plenty of work to do and still no Head of Development despite discussions.
Boston Dowling ( I think) was also training at the session I went to. Presumably for the VFL squad ruck depth.
Could we see Boston Dowling resting forward on Denver Grainger-Barass? I hope these parents have genuine reasons for these names. Where’s Bendigo Jones or Gundaroo Hitchcock-Smith? I guess it’s better than Jaxxon and Tahli.
I guess their parents didn’t like the idea of Poowong Dowling or Tittybong Grainger-Barass
It’s a better timeline where those are common Australian children’s names, “Tittybong…get that frog outta ya mouth…Tittybong!”
They are names made famous by the old limerick which from memory is something like:
There was a young lady from Poowong
Who thought living in such a place was wrong.
So she departed one day,
Travelling a long way,
And changed her address to Tittybong
Rosa did mention in his interview they definitely want more f50 ground ball players, so I gather this will be a focus next year. I really did want dovaston over farrow myself, but we pretty much addressed our taller mids for the next decade in one draft.
I was of the same opinion, nothing against Farrow and he may turn out to be a star but Dovaston is exactly what our list needed.
Rosa had another chance to pick up a SF but decided on Setters, that was the real head scratcher for me.
