OK so Lonie is better than a certain Blitzer.
But I didn’t see Nino comparing Blitzers to potential small forward options.
Maybe because there are so many big bodied mid(riffs) among that cohort he gets over excited.
We need both tex and fejo ow that Walla is on Permanent hiatus.
Only if they’re any good. And both are unlikely to impact in 2022.
I’d absolutely grab Lonie as depth at this point.
So who are you going to drop from the first 22 in order to play that “place holder” Lonie?
Assume Smith & Snelling play.
Then;
They might not be classic small forwards but essentially you’re denying games to any of Perkins Hobbs Guelfi Ham or a resting mid.
And that’s without counting wild cards like Lord or a SSP player.
All of whom have more chance of playing well over the next two or three years.
It wouldn’t be about the best 22, it’d be about depth.
I think we definitely need another small fwd option on the list.
I’d be miffed if it was Lonie, but I could see the reasoning.
Gibbons from Carlton is a better player than lonie isn’t he? (Prepares to get shot down)
Gibbons is an undersized mid, and has complained about being played out of position up forward when he was with Fark Carlton.
If you want a forward, recruit a bloody forward.
No one. Hence he would be “depth”.
We currently have very little depth in that specific area of the ground.
If we get a small forward he has to kick straight though, i prefer minimal impact and 2.0 than some bloke that gets a lot of the ball and misses a lot. That’s what i would hate about lonie, he is a small forward that always misses, it puts pressure on the rest of the team, unless I’m mixing him up with one of the other 10 jacks in their side.
Lonie doesn’t work hard enough defensively and shows no effort to improve that.
As long as they’ve got genuine pace and use it both ways, they can pay their way in defensive pressure alone.
(Which excludes Lonie, and that Ainsworth guy from GC)
Lonie is not very good.
In 85 games he has only kicked 73 goals however he has kicked 81 behinds.
To give a comparison:
Tippa has played 126 games in the same time period: kicked 153 - 74.
Or what about Langford who doesn’t even play as a small forward or even that often in the forwardline. In the same time period he has played 98 games and kicked 67 - 37.
Lonie isn’t very good. As backup he isn’t very good. I would rather not have a small than to pick him up.
Tex>lonie
Is there any suggestion Tex would play small forward?
I think that’s his go. Creative forward
Yep. My understanding it’s Fejo who is the winger.
Surely, there has to be a good small forward playing somewhere in the WAFL, SANFL, VFL who’s worthy of a spot on an AFL list?
Reality is that small fwd pickings seem slim and we tried our best to lure over some decent choices. Take Tex now imo. Training reports seem to indicate they’ve got the potential and the commitment to training. Might not be the 2022 answer… but at least we have something more than T.Hird for the future. Worst case scenario is we dump them off a one year contract.
Ive heard Josh Greene is coming out of retirement. That’s a bit exciting? @Finding_Nino thoughts?
