The Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period (SSP)

Why do you punish yourself?

Gibbons is a FarkCarlton version of Snelling and that is a huge downgrade.

Imo we’ll end filling our small forward void with Dev Smith after he is pushed out by our midfield depth which will also be covering for our small forward problems.

Perkins should also find a new level in year 2 and showed enough in the second half of last year to suggest he’ll be a good option

We should still be bringing in a couple of future options, but fejo and Tex aren’t gonna contribute in 2022 and there aren’t many if any options that will

He was already nearly full time forward last year.

A lot of suggestions in here on how we replace Tippa but this is the closest to mark I think.

Smith has been rightfully squeezed out of the midfield and I definitely see a spot in the pocket for him. I’m not a fan of Smith but he brings mongrel and pace.

A quick question on both Tex and Fejo.
Do they have that closing speed such as Tippa??
(albeit inexperienced)
I haven’t seen them train so a genuine question

Not to mention Toni Pearen.

Guy Rigoni

We won’t get Guy Rigoni. We won’t even get Stringer.

Should we hold out for Lance Picoane?

I mean, isn’t that what the 40th spot of the list is for?

So that’s “depth” after Perkins, Guelfi, Hobbs, a potential resting mid, Lord, and potentially SSP signings in Tex or Martin (who are both forwards)?

Hmmm….6 players, making Lonie 7th in line.

Once you get to that level of “depth” I suggest you’re scraping the bottom on the barrel.
Which is what Lonie would be.

So let’s really break this down.

What makes you think Guelfi, Lord or Hobbs would be capable of performing as a small forward? Perkins is a medium forward at the same height as stringer, And which resting mid are you referring to?

As it stands, we have a very strong midfield, however there’s not one that has a natural instinct as a small forward.

In terms of Tex/Fejo/Martin as a SPP, Lonie would be far more ready made in the short term if need be.

Lonie has proved handy over the past 6/7 seasons as a bona fide small forward. Best case scenario, we don’t need to play him and he’s decent for our VFL team. Worst case, he comes in and plays a role if Smith/Snelling go down injured.

It’s hardly a massive investment.

This is what my insider is telling me. Rance has been offered of spot.

Start listing your best 22’s and see who is squeezed out.
That’s the nub of my argument.
Walla when firing makes Best 22 every day.
Being labeled a “small forward” doesn’t make you a Walla replacement.
Or something that the team necessarily needs when there are better footballers - Perkins Hobbs etc etc & better team players (which Guelfi is, for example) just because Smith & Snelling aren’t enough small forwards for your liking.

Hardly a ringing endorsement, even for you.
Lonie is just not good enough, not even for depth.

He was playing hff, I think he’ll be returned to the forward pocket if Walla doesn’t play

What’s the status of Jarrod Cameron, delisted by West Coast last year, injury-ravaged small forward. Would we throw a line out?

I’ve never seen the bloke play.
