Not sure this is true. Not if you actually look into daily life in different eras and cultures. However - I have a standing self-instruction not to discuss these things online, so that’s it from me
I dunno much about any of this stuff, as my interest in anything political is non existent. However…
I can not a imagine a series of events, or scenarios that lead me to a point in my life where I cared what cheese was named.
I work with a few people who were convinced the name change was going to lead to all sorts of social carnage.
I went on to tell one of them that Id read an article that the word Man was going to be dropped from all super hero characters, effective immediately. Pure panic crossed his face.
It was a complete lie, of course. But he believed it.
This bizarre fear of change that is free of any actual personal detriment is strange. But mildly amusing.
In regard to the cheese name change
Perhaps the owners did some research with a marketing company and came to the conclusion that they would sell more cheese with a new name??
Or am i totally wrong and there was some sort of lawsuit or something
Speaking of creepy, how about Hollywood being full of predators/paedos, yet they’re the ones to preach to the masses about everything from their ivory towers? It’s ■■■■■■■ disgusting. These are the scum who should be cancelled.
“Free speech” now means “I demand a captive audience who won’t call me out on my bullshit.” Use Twitter for example. The old management were accused of suppressing freedom of speech, particularly by the right. The truth is there is no shortage of websites where one can drop a hard-R, but those websites don’t draw the same level of user traffic and engagement.
Nobody was ever “cancelled” for saying corporate tax rates were too high.
From memory there were threats of boycotts and the conversation was being had on social media. So I think they kind of got pushed into doing the profitable thing, they were just trying not to lose customers, be on the right side of history. I don’t think they did it for publicity.
Right. @Benny40 said it best unthread when he said society is like a pendulum swinging back and forth.
People wanted to fix things, it got momentum, some people took it too far and started canceling things/people and some of it was poorly executed with bad timing and an almost religious fervor, which created a void for the anti-woke movement.
Jim Jeffries made a point along these lines when he talks about his Dad changing from being a homophobe to voting for gay marriage. He changed his views and grew as a person, but the next week he was confronted by a trans person and reacted poorly. Jim’s message was to give him a break, he’s not a bad bloke, he’s trying and making progress but sometimes society needs baby steps.
They were participating in censorship on behalf of the democratic party to stop the general public from knowing what a bunch of criminals they are. That’s not to say the other party aren’t by the way, but it’s pretty concerning…
