Oh wait, I think I’ve made this stuff up before. When I thought of cancel culture I was thinking of stuff like Apu being written out of the Simpsons. My mistake ![]()
The push for Drag Culture in today’s society is so odd.
There were a million reasons Thorburn was sacked, which had nothing to do with his personal views.
How many times have you been accused of being phobic to your face that you have a well developed game plan. ![]()
Many times.
Especially by boomers who care about certain things that just don’t matter.
Especially if they call you ambulophobic.
Unless they call you agoraphobic.
Then you might be stuck in a house with them.
yeh leave us alone,
you muppists.
It’s one I don’t get either. Dress in drag all you like. I don’t mind story time for kids headed by a man in dressed as a pantomime dame. But what’s the reasoning behind it?
It’s a very small niche group of people. It’s amazing how much it’s seen now.
So it’s not even woke young uns calling you out, it’s old boomers, man you really must be all the phobias ![]()
Not really. I am perfectly comfortable on my views on anything. You just need to apply a certain amount of logic.
As Benny mentioned earlier, the market is overcorrecting in that direction.
For whatever reason, trans people find themselves at the heart of culture wars these days. Companies have realised over the past few years that gay and trans people buy stuff too, so they’re now orientating their marketing in that direction. Drag Queens are a particularly visible image.
Given that marketing departments are comprised mostly of soulless suit-wearing corporate husks, this marketing comes across in a very embarrassing, hamfisted and cringe-worthy manner.
No offense meant for you soulless suit-wearing corporate husks out there, I hope to be one of you one day
Trevor Noah is one comedian i cannot stand.
If thats a “great” piece id like to watch it. Try find something of his i can laugh at
The pendulum society description was something my grandmother told me about 20 years ago. This was before the current cluster ■■■■ of social clashes.
She’d seen the automobile introduced into Australia, man land on the moon and was the first to bring a PC into her retirement home. And all of the social change that came over that journey.
This has all happened before and it will happen again.
It wasn’t a comedy bit, rather he spoke about allowing people to acknowledge their past mistakes and learning to grow as a person from them. That one shouldn’t be condemned forever based on views they once had. People should be given space to evolve
Need more people thinking like this. Too often wokeness smacks of hive-mind thinking. Sometimes the hypocrisy and inconsistencies in rationale are stark.
A definition of ‘woke’ in the NYT: ‘a word to describe a new brand of righteous, identity-conscious, new left activists eager to tackle oppression, including in everyday life and even at the expense of some liberal values’.
That’s probably fair. They make a good argument for why the ‘fight against woke’ is important to the Republicans. Basically:
- ‘woke bashing’ doesn’t alienate centrists or the right, unlike older culture war fights (e.g. abortion, immigration)
- equally animates conservative elites and populists (as with Communism in 60s)
You can see how all this applies to Australia. And how populist types might perceive woke as indistinguishable from left.
Stop using the word. It’s dumb.
Posting on blitz is the perfect activity for one of those.
