The Tennis Thread - from Jan 2020 (Part 2)

Well he’s got a lot more time now since he’s stopped counting all his money.

Beating tennis greats like dax donders and Rasheed Nawaf.

As long as Tomic is happy that’s all that matters.

Cincinatti Open
Purcell beats world #7 Ruud in 3 sets to go to the 3rd round.
De Minaur goes out to Monfils in straight sets.
Popyrin (who only got into the main draw as a LL) has a walk over into the 3rd round.

Popyrin and Purcell through to the quarters!

Purcell likely to have Alcaraz, who is in a tough fight Paul, but now has a break in the 3rd.

Good to see the US Open has really captured the imagination of Blitz

A few days in and not one comment.

I’ll start by saying… Lol Tsitsipas. Knocked out in the second round by a Canadian qualifier. Then proceeded to sack Philippoussis as his coach again. You wonder if he’ll ever deliver on his talent and win a slam or whether he’s going to remain a chronic underachiever/bridesmaid.

P.S. The Aussies have largely been disappointing and have been falling like flies either being beaten or withdrawing injured.

Yesterday was a train wreck for the Australian men.

Tsitsipas is finished. Probably also doesn’t care as he’s in love now. Good on them.

I can’t get interested in US Open due to the time difference.

The other guy who is in a hell of a slump is Felix Auger-Aliassime.

His last 6 results at slams for a top 10-15 player aren’t great reading.

2022
Wimbledon: 1st Rnd
US Open: 2nd Rnd

2023
Aus: 4th Rnd
French: 1st Rnd
Wimbledon: 1st Rnd
US Open: 1st Rnd

He’s rubbish

I love Sinner’s Gucci bags.

Tiafoe is going to win

Kokk was beaten by a Taiwanese player. If it was pingpong ok but tennis?
Looks like top 40-50 might be ceiling for Kokk even if he manages to stay fit.
I wonder if he has a shoulder problem that will never allow full power to return? I think someone said that on here a while ago.

Aussie Chris O’Connell has just taken a set off Medvedev. Into a 4th.

Your man Berrettini taken off court in a wheelchair earlier today @em2009

Medvedev wins the 4th 6-2 & the match.
Only De Minaur & Hijikata remaining.
De Minaur has 23rd seed Jarry.
Hijikata has Zhang.

Kokkinakis is heading towards three years being as injury free as you can get. Good to see Tomljanovic play her first tournament and win a match - She is by far the best Aussie women’s tennis player.
