Hijikata beats Zhang in four, and into the 4th round! Tiafoe (10th seed up next).
Itās funny, we now have 9 guys ranked inside the top 100 which is a great representation and probably the most we have had for some time.
Yet none of them are any chance of ever winning a slam
For what itās worth, the 9 Aussies by live world ranking are:
De Minaur - 12
Max Purcell - 43
Alexei Popyrin - 45
Alexsandar Vukic - 49
Jordan Thompson - 54
Chris OāConnell - 63
Thanasi Kokkinakis - 74
Rinki Hijikata- 80
Jason Kubler - 93
Rinki our best hope out of that group
To me, the only guy who if absolutely everything went right would be half a shot at making a grand slam semi or final would be Popyrin because he at least has the weapons. Even then, itās very unlikely.
Has a killer forehand but yeah if he can improve he would be half a chance
I thought for a long time that if the Kokk had a good injury run heād be a top 10 player. But heās had a good run for a couple of years now and is miles off it
Iāve heard Brett Phillips (tennis guru) talk before about Thanasi and he was essentially saying that the perception of him around tennis circles is that he doesnāt really work that hard and lives a lifestyle that isnāt super professional.
My guess is that it could be one of those situations where that horrific run of injuries that he had over a few years kind of blunted his enthusiasm and desire to really stretch himself.
Novak routinely gets himself out of these situations but heās down a set and 3-5 at the moment against his fellow countryman, Laslo Djere.
Yep. It will be interesting if he goes down 2 sets but heād still be favourite I reckon
And there it is. Down 2 sets to 0.
And youāre right, I just had a look and the bookies have it as:
Novak $1.72
Djere $2.10
Iām not even watching but it still feels inevitable that Novak wins
Feels like a typical Novax win
You add Kyrgios whose true ranking is the top 100 and he by far is the best chance of winning a Grand Slam.
Lol heāll be lucky to play more than a handful of slams before itās curtains for him. Canāt see him ever getting close to getting to the pointy end of a slam again.
Clearly he has/had the best game and most weapons out of all those guys though yeah.
De Minaur wins easily and into the 4th round.
Zverev v Dimitrov is a good one at the moment.
So, Jelena Ostapenko knocked out Iga Swiatek yesterday.
Match-ups are a funny thing. She is 4-0 against Iga so she must really have her number despite Iga being number 1.
Sheās certainly not celebrating it quietly either, I just had a look at her Instagram and sheās made 7 separate posts about the win since yesterday! And about 50 separate entries on her insta stories. Lol.
Demon up against Medvedev atm.
Demon took the first set.
Poor Todd has to sit in broadcast while Alex goes to urinate. Not taking it well is poor Todd.
