Of course he wants to win a slam. Things don’t just happen because you want them. Given that he already is uber professional and works hard, how else do you think he is going to win a slam? He’s got no more levers to pull.
If he was a prodigy and was lazy af and then decided he badly wanted to win a slam then maybe by maximising his talent through hard work it could happen. But that’s not what this situation is Nino.
He and every other tennis player that makes the 3rd round would all be saying the same thing. They can’t all be winners. De Minaur is getting the most out of his ability already. There’s no magic trick that will raise his ceiling.
Thats true we always have to rely on a cooked Ajla.
Ash retiring hurts she would have lead thousands of young girls and boys in chosing Tennis as a sport if she kept playing and won at least a dozen slams
Agree with all of this. The Demon is the Ozzie version of Tim Henman. A good player, who got the most out of himself, but who just didn’t have the weapons to go with the heavy hitter of his era such as Sampras.
TBH I’d be shocked if De Minaur broke into the top 10.
Yeah, he’s not far off it in terms of pure ranking but it feels miles off.
He’s done well to make the top 20 and that feels about his maximum level.
He simply doesn’t have the weapons to go higher.
Agree about the relative abilities, Henman was the the better player. My nominating of him was not meant to be a direct comparison, rather it was meant to show how both players were similar in that they got the best out of themselves, and went as far as they could go without reaching the absolute top of the tennis tree.
