It’s only the 6th storm to register a central pressure below 900 hPa in the Atlantic basin on record and is now stronger than Katrina was at peak intensity.

Up above 900 again and Cat4 as it goes through an EWRC (eye wall replacement cycle) but will gain strength again and some models have it even getting to low 870 status. Still a way to play out but with SST at around 30 degrees all the way to Tampa, it will get the red carpet treatment. Helene cooled things down a bit, but SST have jumped back up to where they were pre-Helene.

I’m supposed to be heading to Florida in a few weeks. Looks absolutely terrifying.

One of my friends has relatives at Sarasota - apparently they haven’t evacuated. But there is a shelter close by if need be.

Models are predicting anywhere between Tampa Bay and Venice. Sarasota is right in the middle of that range. Are they East Sarasota? If they get through the surge relatively unscathed, I hope they have enough supplies to last for 1-2 weeks because they’ll be without power and running water for at least that long.

I feel for the people who are unable to get out of there for whatever reason because the next few weeks are going to be nasty. Whay people underestimate is not just the storm itself, but the aftermath. Hence why this is so cruel for so many, still picking up the pieces after Helene and now this. Must be so devastating.

Predicted to be a Cat 4 as it hits landfall. The storm surge is going to be something else.

It is jaw dropping the intensity of this event.

Dropped to a Cat 3 hurricane currently. Winds are less than a day ago. Hopefully this continues to diminish and damage is less than predicted.

I hope Milton such a disappointment that his mother refuses to speak to him in the car on the way home.
