The Wrestling Thread

I missed the multiple “We want Rusev” chants at the end. That’s how you know you’ve farked up, spent a year building up the Evil Russian and the crowd would prefer him to win over your darling superface.

And the bell did ■■■■■■ ring after Big Show and Kane were eliminated. Someone’s getting fired*.

  • but it won’t be the right person(s)

LOL, look at Rock (and the dead ringside crowd):

Only good thing was the Lesnar/Rollins/Cena match. Rollins MVP imo.

RR was horrendous. ■■■■ they could at least had Rock enter at 30, face off against Rusev and get eliminated or something to give someone a boost. Literally the only person who came out at break evens was Wyatt, everyone else treaded water.

Mind you, almost better than that was the way Lesnar absolutely smashed onto the stairs the monitor he removed from the table beforehand. Lesnar may not talk much, but damn he sells a character and a story.

Obviously something has to change in the coming months: Heyman’s promos and Lesnar’s smirks will destroy Reigns’ stammers, Lesnar has notably more wrestling technique, size, power… and no one is going to adopt Reigns as underdog. What’s the story going to be?

Ended up watching the rumble didn’t think I would but ended up doing it. Mizdow saved the rumble at one point and brought some entertainment after D BRY was out. DDP and BUBBA were good highlights.
The result of the rumble. Shocking.
The world title fight was amazing.! adding Seth was pure genius.

I will play booker for a bit:

Reigns gets sold as “The Chosen One”, “The Future of the WWE” etc, make the marks believe that The Authority will do anything to stick the title on him because they’re pushing him huge. Needs a heel mouthpiece to do that though. HHH would be the obvious choice, but with HHH vs Sting set up, is that possible? Does Rock use the fans booing him and Reigns as justification for a potential heel turn? Unlikely, but I bet he’ll be involved in the angle somewhere.

Meantime, Heyman brings the “You can’t beat Brock angle” “The 1 in 21-1 etc” promos - again reinforcing that Lesnar is a beast that can’t be stopped. In case we need reminding.

Then the storyline becomes "The unstoppable beast versus the “guy that we want to push so bad that we would make Lesnar job to”. It makes Lesnar and Heyman babyfaces fighting against “The Authority”.

Outcome: Lesnar wins the match, but Rollins cashes in MITB after Reigns/Rock if he’s involved/HHH do enough damage to Lesnar. Rollins will still eat an F5 though. Makes him look strong if he kicks out of that.

I also wouldn’t rule out Taker interference in the match either.

That also sets up a Brock v Rock match for the future, and a Rollins v Reigns program.

I know the Rumble sucked, and I’m glad I didn’t buy it - but Mania could be really interesting this year.

Farken vince 5 years in a row the same ■■■■.
You know ya farked up when the rock can’t save the day.
They must be thanking God for that snow blizzard because they would have copped so much heat from the crowd on today’s raw.
I feel bad for roman though it was his moment but the wwe just ■■■■■■ it up for him.

LOL

Holy moly they absolutely cooked that ending. Bell rang early, sending the Rock out for damage control, absolutely dead crowd.

Triple threat was amazing. Tag title match was fun. Even the women’s match was pretty good (didn’t help that there was zero story to it). Rumble was legit top shelf up until Bryan was eliminated. All the fun of the match just disappeared in that instant.

I feel really, really bad for Reigns. At least Batista had an acting career to go back to. This poor dude has nothing.

Can someone summarise for me why the punters now hate Reigns? I remember last years rumble, the crowd was red hot for him to win the thing, and 12 months later, he wins it and they are booing him.

Is it merely because they wanted Bryan to win and if anyone else won instead of him they would cop heat? Or is there another reason?

Note - I have watched barely any WWE for a few years, so apologies if the answer is obvious!

Reigns has been SuperCena-ed all year. This is especially obvious when compared to his more experienced Shield counterparts (who are more “naturally” over with crowds).

Vince et al like his look and he’s the heir apparent, damnit, even if he can’t cut a promo to save his life.

Batista could at least talk, and in a three-way you could cover for his notable lack of endurance.

The crowd would have coped with, say, Ziggler winning. But no one believed anyone but Reigns would win after Bryan was out. The disrespectful exits of Ziggler and Ambrose by company men Kane and Big Slow certainly didn’t help.

Hell, Philadelphia, home of freedom, chanted for the Russian to win.

Now THAT. Was. Funny.

Imagine the AFL cancelling every Essendon game and replacing them with GWS games instead.

So basically Reigns has been pushed by Vince for WM ahead of the guys who were main eventing when he was injured, like Ziggler / Ambrose / Rollins? (see theory in this article, which I can’t verify having not watched WWE for a year - http://www.sbnation.com/wrestling/2015/1/26/7902259/roman-reigns-wwe-royal-rumble-john-cena-daniel-bryan-wrestlemania )

And where does Bryan go re WM? Maybe they will have him face Ziggler and steal the show.

A lot of people have brought up that Reigns was being cheered last year. He was a heel at that point going up against Batista who everybody hated for being pushed ahead of Bryan. So people cheered for him just to stick it to Batista and vince for screwing over Bryan again.

Bryan is so over its amazing. He is soo over the fans were booing The Rock for helping Reigns.Bryan is loved by not just the iwc but kids and your average fan as well. Its amazing that they wont have him headline wrestlemania. When Austin was at his peak he main evented 3 out of 4 wrestlemanias. Fans wanted austin at the top, vince gave it to them and mades stacks of cash.

I am simply amazed that vince has screwed up the Rumble 2 years in a row. I truly think he is out of touch.

Is there a chance that if Bryan were to be pushed now that fans would be cynical about it anyway?

Nah they’d love it.

The only way they could stop the “hijacking” would be to fire the bloke.

Nope. Fans want Bryan bad. I was thinking maybe that Vince wanted Bryan out early so that the crowd “got over it” by the end of the match, but it clearly had the opposite effect, as the crowd ■■■■■■■ on Reigns and everyone else for the rest of the Rumble. Clearly as soon as Bryan was out Reigns was going to be the clear winner as no one else was a legit contender to Lesnar. Not to mention having guys like Titus O’Neil at freakin 26 an anti climax of epic proportions, only bettered by the massive anti-climax of Big Show at 30 the previous year. Bubba was probably the best part of the thing, bar the excellent Title Match.

Not sure WhyTF Rock wasn’t used in the Rumble itself if he was ‘there’ and getting physical by making a save for Reigns. Rock should have come in at 30, been eliminated by Reigns, then come back to make the save on him from the Authority. Reigns eliminating Rock would have at least bolstered Reigns’ credentials, because he barely eliminated anyone in the Rumble itself. They could have then hinted at tension for a three way match at Mania (Lesnar/Rock/Reigns) which is far preferable than a straight match with Lesnar and Reigns.

No one in their right mind would think either Kane/Big Show were winning the Rumble, therefore the final four caused even more backlash for the predictable win by Reigns. Oh, and are they really going with a Rusev/Cena Mania match? C’mon, we all know Cena is winning this thing. Jesus. And a Sheamus/Bryan match? We’ve only seen that, what, 2/3 times previously at Mania?

Buddy Murphy(Matt Silva) and his tag partner are new NXT tag champs.

Twitter is abuzz with posts from Ziggler demanding a match with Bryan at WM. I’d pay to watch that one.
