Mind you, almost better than that was the way Lesnar absolutely smashed onto the stairs the monitor he removed from the table beforehand. Lesnar may not talk much, but damn he sells a character and a story.
Obviously something has to change in the coming months: Heyman’s promos and Lesnar’s smirks will destroy Reigns’ stammers, Lesnar has notably more wrestling technique, size, power… and no one is going to adopt Reigns as underdog. What’s the story going to be?
I will play booker for a bit:
Reigns gets sold as “The Chosen One”, “The Future of the WWE” etc, make the marks believe that The Authority will do anything to stick the title on him because they’re pushing him huge. Needs a heel mouthpiece to do that though. HHH would be the obvious choice, but with HHH vs Sting set up, is that possible? Does Rock use the fans booing him and Reigns as justification for a potential heel turn? Unlikely, but I bet he’ll be involved in the angle somewhere.
Meantime, Heyman brings the “You can’t beat Brock angle” “The 1 in 21-1 etc” promos - again reinforcing that Lesnar is a beast that can’t be stopped. In case we need reminding.
Then the storyline becomes "The unstoppable beast versus the “guy that we want to push so bad that we would make Lesnar job to”. It makes Lesnar and Heyman babyfaces fighting against “The Authority”.
Outcome: Lesnar wins the match, but Rollins cashes in MITB after Reigns/Rock if he’s involved/HHH do enough damage to Lesnar. Rollins will still eat an F5 though. Makes him look strong if he kicks out of that.
I also wouldn’t rule out Taker interference in the match either.
That also sets up a Brock v Rock match for the future, and a Rollins v Reigns program.
I know the Rumble sucked, and I’m glad I didn’t buy it - but Mania could be really interesting this year.
