It’s true they traded in players, but they all drafted an elite core of their own 1st.
We haven’t done that in god knows how long
Question is how do we get volume talent this year with only the two picks? Top 10 talent with the first, we either need to split the second for Kako or get additional picks through presumably trading away players.
We’ve delisted 4 players plus Heppell retiring, you would think a couple more players will be delisted … so there are probably 7 spots we’ll need to fill … with 2 draft picks, potentially a free agent, and maybe some speculative pre-season selections
Can he play?
Not a prerequisite for a game at Essendon
I don’t get these bullshit articles about Ben Hobbs leaving.
Making his debut in r5 2022, he didn’t miss a game for the rest of the season.
Last year, came back in Anzac day and played for the rest of the season.
This year, played from r2-r9 before injury then played the last couple of games.
Why is everyone saying he is leaving?
Most likely dumb ■■■■■ who want a cheap article and clicks
Yep hes probably been dosed up on Morphine for the best part of a month.
Yet numb nuts in the afl media like Barrett think its a problem hes “staying silent “
It won’t be cucumbers but it’ll be something.
The thread always goes on tangents during trade week.
Not what I’m saying…but uplifting a few positions around the ground can significantly change the performance of a team
Is it more that with Durham and Caldwell genuinely emerging as good midfielders, and with Merrett and Parish also there, and then you’ve also got Tsatas in the VFL, that the media see Hobbs as surplus to our needs / a good player in the one area we are reasonably strong?
Given yet again Essendon supporters need to be entertained by trade speculation in late august/september…
I hope we are linked to a few players.
Is our list still “rated in Industry circles”?
Because as a mug punter fan it seems ordinary in a few areas compared to other sides.
We don’t want to lift a few positions with this team. The absolute stupidest and worst thing this club can do is continue to finish 8th-14th year after year.
If someone like Owies and a couple of others lift us one or two spots next year it’s a disaster
The list management team need to explore all options. Continuing to do what we have done and tread the Dodoro line of bring in Free Agents, hold onto picks ranging from 8-14 in the draft and hope by some dumb luck the seas part for us won’t get us anywhere. Where does the club see us at? If it’s we are close to contending, then have the balls to go chips in and bring in Petracca, Houston, etc. We have for once got a lot of tradeable assets that could land us some big name players. If not, then asset strip and hit the reset button, go to the draft, get early picks before Tassie gets in and put every resource into player development. This halfway house approach will keep us in mid table purgatory.
He’s certainly a person who’s been on an AFL list.

Given the long term deals…we likely need to keep adding to current crop.
A decent half back flanker at draft or free agent would be handy along with another small forward (Kako)
We had a reasonably healthy list
Z Reid played 1 game, Ridley played 9. If those 2 play most weeks then no laverde or kelly hopefully.
Roberts likely takes Heppells spot down back.
Hind played 15 matches - Player I imagine to replace his pace and run would be El-Hawli
Parish only played 12 games, injury free will demand more games next year, likely soak up the SHiel games if he is traded…
Shiel looks like fallen through with Saints, would any other club be interested. He will be after more games only 9 this year.
This means it will make it even harder for Hobbs and Tsatas to both be in the 22 every week.
Plus Setterfield closing in on a new contract and only played 4 games.
Goldys 14 games likely replaced by Bryan, and Draper only played 16 games hopefully full season from him next year.
Does Wright get back into the 22, or even traded?
what other guys will be replaced in the lineup.
I guess Menzie replaced by Kako/Davey

So hard to judge between teams when you’re looking at a confluence of skilful players, effective role players, footy IQ, experience, injuries, age profile and coaching. Richmond this year still has 15 premiership players on their list, Melbourne 20 but both were as poo as we were. Can be incredibly difficult to judge between all of those factors
The thing about Petracca and his player agency… they’re not going to be this vocal about wanting out unless another club said they’ll take him.
Given his contract, HOPING another club takes that on makes zero sense.
There are no leaks and that frustrates the media no end.
The timing on where Petracca goes is critical.
The way this industry works it would not surprise if a club saw an opportunity months ago when it was reported Petracca had the falling out with Melbourne. It suits the narrative to delay any announcement of his preferred destination.
Which clubs have the cap space… Hawks, Essendon?
Not sure why, but Barhams words about no leaks coming out of Essendon these days has me thinking the club are into Petracca?
No one that has draft picks has cap space and no one that has cap space has draft picks to spare on him
I can see this getting ugly and then someone paying a FF or something when it becomes untenable. Sort of like the Treloar situation, except reversed

It suits the narrative to delay any announcement of his preferred destination.
Delay announcement until they are out of finals contention.
I guess that didn’t stop Barass though.
