Trade talk - from August 2024

Absolutely nailed it. Say no more

Thatā€™s not turning Hobbs into Lalor.
Thatā€™s turning Hobbs AND our first into Lalor.
Essentially trading Hobbs to move up a couple of spotsā€¦ Not a fan, as much as I like the sound of Lalor

Like Durham and Caldwell? We are bad at it, but we have a few good wins now and then.

Trade all 3 and Tsatas.

oh boy wowee, Perkins collects his prolific 10th possession of the day (still no tackles though)

If we were to trade Parish, or anyone with a long contract, i think the other club would have to come along begging.

All sorts of bad messages otherwise, both to the layer, and also puts the other club in a position of bargaining power.

If Lalor turns out as good as Bont or Martin then youā€™d do it.

Lalor looks have far more chance of being a superstar player then Hobbs so I would do that trade in a heartbeat.
Hobbs at best becomes an okish player probably one of those guys who ends up at three clubs trying to find a spot

Yep, Iā€™d do that trade and then get Nguyen as a somewhat replacement for Hobbs.

Nguyen going to be a better player.

Our club needs to be taking some risks, I wouldnā€™t be against it.

A hobbs trade likely is a pick that gets eaten up by Kako bids. Unless itā€™s a future pick I guess but I canā€™t see a world where the demand for him is so great that we get two bites at the cherry before Kako selected. on that basis I doubt we release a contracted player - at worst he is senior depth.

I massively feel for the kid - he was absolutely the wrong player for us to draft, and yes, its Dodoro again.

This comment just broke the space-time continuum.

Nguyen is going to be a better player than Ben Hobbs?

I swear half of blitz need to get checked for long term memory loss, its like no one can remember what happened further back than the current year.
Hobbs looked extremely promising last year, but spent this year injured and out of position.

Madness to think Nguyen will be the better of the two.

one of the most significant weapons you can have in afl is agility, hobbs has the acceleration of a tractor.

Agree. Slow and canā€™t kick. Gets caught very often

I must have missed the memo where Hobbs is some legendary footballer.

It would help if we could develop players,
But we donā€™t really do that.

It isnā€™t his fault heā€™s an inside midfielder and thatā€™s about it. Itā€™s our fault for playing him forward expecting him to actually be useful.

Will say, heā€™s been fkked over by the sub rule this year when he played. 4 times sub from 12 games. Must be hard to get into rhythm.

I donā€™t know our alternative at the moment though. Itā€™s not the Daveys, itā€™s not Menzie, itā€™s no longer Hind.

Stuffed over by the sub rule? Or the bloke he calls his coach playing him as the sub thus not allowing him to get any momentum. Thats ā– ā– ā– ā–  coaching.

Bit of column A bit of column B.

Between injuries and being too clever or too much tinkering we had F all continuity in our forward half.

Its not necessarily ā– ā– ā– ā–  coaching if Hobbs is deemed the 23rd best player though, that just is what it isā€¦

Semi related but how Hind didnā€™t get a gig those last few games when available and was actually in fairly good form for a patch there is beyond me. He must have slept with someoneā€™s partner. Papers stamped early, ciao.

The sub rule in general needs to go. Just extend the benches by one and be done with it. Canā€™t stand player debuts and they are the starting sub. Such a wank and doesnā€™t sit right with me.

Also seems like a great way to stunt player development if they are the sub and come on for the one quarter or half a quarter, then go back down to twos, or are the sub back to back weeks, then get a week off to build loads back up etc. not ideal.

I think itā€™s pretty fanciful we get a first round pick for Hobbs if traded. Heā€™s unironically our very own version of Jackson Hateley.
