Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Because StKilda is a more attractive place for him to play.

We are re-signing Sammy Draper.

He basically confirmed it from his end on Saturday night. It didn’t sound like the club was nickel n diming him. And we would never let anyone know if his manager was holding us to any sort of ransom.

Because that’s not how you treat your players.

Not surprising that both clubs investing heavily into community football even if just with getting the right people in the right places.

I do wonder how much Collingwood puts into their development of FS players, I don’t think we do a lot of direct coaching up of our FS prospects in comparison. I’d be surprised if our connections with Calder are half as strong as the pies are to oakleigh, even though our academy kids and FSs have made up a significant portion of the team recently

Sounds like a good opportunity to manipulate the system to gain an advantage, which is exactly what we should have been trying to do as well.

We should definitely get Ed Richards

Surely we’re into Bergman this year?

Elite intercept player who has the flexibility to play on smalls and talls. Ensures Redman can play a more attcking role

You forgot Undercover Agent Billy Smedts who went to Fark Carlton and kept them ■■■■

Port will want a 1st I’d think. If so we package our 2 seconds wth GC for 13 and trade for Bergman. I think our backline then looks really solid.
We have a glut of mids. Parish and Caldwell are both injured and I’m not sure who leave out this week to bring in Tsatas, who deserves a game. I think a mid or 2 will get traded. We’ll find the points for our NGA’s.

I would happily trade a first for Bergman. Primarily because he is exactly what we need, but also because it would completely undo the horror Shiel trade. As Caldwell and Bergman were the picks we used on Shiel

He’s staying at the dogs

I though St Kilda were heavily into Bergman? They surely can’t do Bergman and TDK.

I’d rather Bergman that Reid or any other player.

Don’t we already have a full compliment of backs?

I’d rather
Reid + Ugle-Hagan + El Achkar (9 shots on goal last weekend 3 goals)

BBM / Power forward, Key forward + Small forward

Potentially all get done with this years picks.

b: McGrath Reid Ridley
hb: Roberts McKay Redman
c: Duursma REID Martin
hf: Ugle-Hagan Caddy Merrett
f: Kako Langford El Achkar
r: Draper Durham Caldwell

Angus Clarke will be our Bergman. No point going to the draft if we are just going to chase similar players in FA.

I’d say Bergman would comfortably replace Prior in the team

There is a point, and that logic is heavily flawed. Miles Bergman at this stage has runs on board whilst Angus Clark is a speculative middle of the draft first year player who could be anything, and that includes being delisted in 12-18months like most of our recent draft picks (Eyre, Brand, Voss, Munkara, Davey, etc etc etc).

It’s like saying thanks but no thanks to Sam Darcy if he was available because we draft Gerryn as a 200+cm ruck/fwd

We are talking about a half back flanker not a generational key fwd.

Bergman is good and if he wants to come to us for no draft capital then great. But I don’t think it is such a big need. I have high faith in Clarke from what I have seen and also Johnson is showing a bit too.

Prefer to spend our money in the fwd half of the ground

At some stage you need to bring a group of young players through together, if you’re serious about winning a premiership.

We seem to always have an Mis-mash of ages…… which really doesn’t do much for building a premiership team, and is a sure fire way of staying mid table.

We continue to try our hand at free agency, so we never drop down the ladder…. Which has a flow on effect of never getting elite talent because we don’t get into the top 4 of the draft.

What about Ryan Burton or Josh Sinn as a half back?

Port have a few out of contract - with Dylan williams OOC as well.

Overall list spots are tight and those guys probably not a lot better than prior.

And I like look of Zach Johnson at half back or Angus Clarke.

A player currently better than mcgrath is not difficult to find.

I like the idea of effectively trading 2 seconds for Bergman. Even better would be trading parish somehow for Bergman. A three team trade with some extra capital from us could make it work.
