I think the obvious question Reid would be asking EFC (assuming we’re in consideration) is what does our best midfield mix look like with him joining?
Reid, Merrett, Parish, Durham, Caldwell, Tsatas & Hobbs is 7 starting mids, and that’s excluding Shiel/Setterfield.
My guess is Tsatas/Hobbs would look for more opportunities elsewhere if Reid came on board, which is fine, but we’d need to be able to sell a clear vision of what we want our best side to look like, and the midfield is where we already have the most depth. Not sure if North are in the mix for Reid but he’d be asking the same question there as well.
I think he stays at west coast. The offer will be financially great and the private money from business deals he will be part of will be much larger than he can get anywhere else. He will end up a part owner in some venues across Perth for little to no cost and quickly realise what side the toast is buttered on.
This is exactly what I’ve been saying. A deal and contract this big isn’t figured out during the trade period. This is years in the making, with both the club and player committing.
Reid to Bombers is happening.
The poster on the Norf board seems to suggest it won’t be until 2026 though. I’m ok with that. We can use all our picks this year on the draft.
Are you expecting Essendon to follow through with an offer for Harley Reid? -via Allan on Facebook
TM: Yes, I think Essendon, like many clubs, if they get an idea that Harley Reid is looking at them, then they will offer big money on a long-term deal to bring him across.
I still think Essendon is a few deep in the pack, though. I think Hawthorn and Geelong are ahead of Essendon, but it doesn’t mean the Bombers can’t fly up, pardon the pun, given their draft hand, given their salary cap space, and given historically they are a big club.
I’m not ruling them out, but I think it is less likely.
You could be right, but even with that all being true. How do you see them satisfying a trade with west coast? Geelongs first for the next few years will all range between 15-18 and then get pushed back into the 20’s in compromised drafts. Those picks all together would be the value of a pick 2-3. West coast will want a lot more than just one top 5 pick. So ultimately Geelong would need to send a couple of very promising players and draft picks for him. Even if they can manage the salary requirements which is a big if I don’t see a world where they satisfy west coast
Which is why Daniher won a premiership with the Swans, Dunkley is running around for us, Oliver is at the cats and Treloar will finish his career playing for Collingwood. Because all those players got to the team they wanted to be….
