Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Agree, and he will take over the captaincy from Merrett should he choose to come.

This this and then this again.

If he’s available and would entertain coming you absolutely do it.

Sam McClure claiming that Hawks have cooled on Harley they think he’s staying the extra year at WC.

Said Hawks are making room and going all in on Zak Butters if he were to leave he has the Hawks as favorites.

Well if Hawks have moved on from Harley then it could leave us in the box seat to grab him.

If we were actually keen on getting him then this would be the ideal outcome for a couple of reasons.

Firstly it allows us to continue to build through they top realms of the draft for a further year while we have 2 x 1sts and 2 x 2nds. This is important for us with where we’re at IMO. We still have a talent deficiency and many areas of the ground to address and a strong hand at the draft is a great start to doing this.

Secondly it could mean that if Harley did decide next year to come home well he’d be out of contract which typically helps diminishes the incumbent club’s position of strength when negotiating. The caveat to this point is that he could have a monster pre season and rip the comp to shreds next year which would then probably counteract that.

Tbh even if he stayed at West Coast long term, I’d much prefer that than seeing him go to Geelong or Hawthorn.

IMO if Harley is staying until 2026 it’s because he wants Geelong and knows they can’t facilitate a trade this year. No other team will be in the running.

Thats worrying, he’s more likely to be heading to Hawks this year than anywhere now.

Hopefully Reid goes to Geelong, to make sure Collingwood don’t win another premiership.

If Reid Goes to Essendon how long until Captain? 2027?

I’ll stress that this is only an opinion but talk from inside the Eagles is that believe Harley is gone and most likely to us. They will pressure him into a decision and move him this year as they don’t want a repeat of this next year plus they think they will get a lot more for him this year.
As to Butters I’ve heard he is leaning towards staying at Port as he is very loyal and there is some stuff behind the scenes that will make the decision harder to leave.
Port have offered Bergman 7 years but still think he is going to Hawthorn

Bergman to Hawks? Surprised by that. Don’t think they need another medium defender.

I imagine we would be angling to include Tsatas in the Reid trade

Bergman already is at Port, they have offered a 7 year extension

Thats a good get for Hawthorn. Trading out of dud draft.

Eagles weighing up Will Phillips too, wonder if they would be interested in Tsatas or Hobbs?

If he was to leave I was always of the opinion that his friendships with Nate Kako and Zach would put us right up there but the onfeild preformance would be the sealer

Seems like we have lined this up for years. We have the capital to do it.

Trade Tsatas and give Reid the 5
