Impey and Amon both turn 30 this year, and Jiath is injury prone.
They probably don’t have a pressing need for him right now, though soon enough perhaps.
He looks a very good player with upside to come.

I would say Bergman is a similar player to
Sicily and Battle.
Would take him at the Dons in a heartbeat
Man Smartt has bulked up massively
Twomey said if was Richmond would trade 2 first rounders (2+3) for Harley Reid.
Would do it in a heart beat. Harley back to damaging best.
Isn’t same star factor this year compared to previous years.
Caddy would have went number 1 in this years group.
Who would you pick if had choice of last 3 Number #1 picks?
Lalor looks a monster, and also plays like he has a chip on his shoulder somewhat
A little surprising. The media seem convinced that if Bergman leaves it’ll be the Saints. Mainly surprising because the Hawks focussed so much on the backline last year - I guess Port have been playing him as a mid the past couple of weeks. It’d be more good work by Hawthorn - ■■■■■.
I’d love Bergman at Essendon - gun.
Gee, that’s actually a hard one.
I think all three are similar. Powerful mids who can be a threat up forward.
Harley is the most dynamic. JHF is the one who when things get tough, will go nose to the grindstone. Lalor seems the one who will just pop up in dangerous spots all game long.
I guess Dustin Martin was the rare beast (and natural comparison) because he was a bit of all three.
Depends what you value most.
From an Essendon standpoint, I think our best chance is if he decides to leave this year – I don’t think he’ll put himself out there this year unless there’s a clear path to get a deal done, and right now it’s probably only us and Richmond in that bucket (of course, others may be able to make it work, but the path isn’t obvious).
If he leaves next year, there’s a lot more competition, as everyone has the chance to build up their kitties in advance, and West Coast realistically won’t be in a position to be as choose-y with the picks they get back.
Exactly this.
And we NEED to make it happen. When was the last time we had an actual match winner?
Merrett is a great player and grinds out wins, but he’s not the type to literally rip teams apart with a few possessions.
Yep, all things being equal, I would expect him to be handed the captaincy in his second season.
lol this type of post from anyone regular is going too kick off pages of speculation.
Bergman is a sensational get for hawthorn if true.
Dire straits for Port if their list falls apart now.
Who wouldn’t have Bergman?
How old is he? Great footballer.
Harley only promises that right now.
He’s got to translate his juniors into seniors. I mean I think he’s a better bet that anyone we could get at this years draft.
But still. It’s in front of him.
I’d like it to be at the dons
A lot of the Bergman to Saints talk seems to be because he’s a bayside boy.
Last I saw, Dingley isn’t that far from the bayside. Certainly closer than any other club, except maybe Melbourne (St Kilda counted of course)
Fox was adamant last night the doggies were balls deep on Bergman not hawthorn.
JUH money being off the books at year end
Dogs were apparently chasing Butters very hard
Yeah right.
Mid week whatever it’s called on Fox, I’m sure they came out with Bergman, Who I’d have thought makes more sense re their list.
Maybe their mail was off or I was hearing things.
Crook as a dog today. Bloody flu
Doggies are desperate for a gun midfield
Merrett?
Parish?
