Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Cox is one of those busts.

Like Denver Granger Barass for Hawthorn.

The difference with the Hawks and their wasted pick 6 is they cut him
loose after 3 seasons and he is now playing vfl for Carlton.

Then bring in Barass and Battle.

Because well. Hawthorn aren’t here to **** proverbial spiders.

We keep Cox on the list for what going on 5 years now?

Essendon list management is woeful. Nowhere near where it needs to be for a top 4 side.

It was woeful - now it’s not - Cox is off contract next year. Do you think he will be an Essendon player after that?

What is a proverbial spider out of interest?

DGB and Cox are from the same Draft.
Hawks cut Denver after 4 seasons.
Cox obviously now in his 5th.

Difference between the 2 is Cox plays senior footy when he’s fit.
Denver didn’t play much 1’s.

Yeah a very underwhelming draft old mate Dodoro targeted.

Apologists - covid affected.

Realists - could have traded Daniher when he wanted out instead.

■■■■ me they should have known 2019 was a good year. Its what they are paid for.

He was so fixated on Talls.
Trying to construct a new 10-12 year Spine in 1 Draft.

Melbourne kept Weideman around and won a grand final. Sydney has made two grand finals while Francis was on their list. Cox showed far more in his first season than DGB did in four. Eyre got repeated SSP summers, and got picked up last year.

Talented talls stick around, even when not doing too much. The exception are complete busts like DGB. Cox was nowhere near worthy of being cut until these concussion issues.

He targeted heh? He forced Fantasia, Saad and McKenna out the door???

Not really meaning to take to Cox as a scapegoat.(he’s just in the firing line as an example being talked about)

I think the List Management criticism of our club still stands.

Hurley and Hooker were around 30, Daniher had left, Ambrose retired due to injuries, Lav couldn’t stay injury free, Jones was young. Out main forwards without JD were McKernan and Brown. Of course he targeted talls.

Yer, I know.
Brand & Eyre were more speculative, and that’s how it turned out.
We probably didn’t need to draft 4 x 198cm+ players in 1 Draft though.

The correct move would have been to take two picks and get the 3rd into the following year that would have been less effected by COVID.

Being a high draft pick does not add or detract from a player’s draft value. It is all about what they have done since being drafted.

Which was very doable…as Collingwood’s F1 was being shopped around, and ended up being Finn Callaghan.

It will take me a long time to move on from that blunder.

Am I missing something?

Maybe because it’s St.Kilda why the fark would he want to play for that minow club

Wonder if his head would have turned if it was us offered him that much big club, big games etc

You know that in terms of pure footballing we are every bit as much of an irrelevance as St Kilda is, right?

Still hasn’t stopped us from attracting talent going by what Vozzo said we have 3-4 players we are looking into acquiring i think the club is making a massive pitch to lure Harley Reid

I’ll actually put my hand up and say I thought and still think he had the right strategy, it just hasn’t come to fruition or may be impacted by other factors.

Outside looking in it looked like he wanted to go heavy on Talls in year 1 and then midfielders in 2 and 3. Which given talls take the longest to develop it makes sense.

I don’t think that was the wrong strategy, it has logic to it
