Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

He’s not really in his last year though. He’s contracted for next season as well. I’ve not been a fan of how he’s gone about it this year at all.

I would happily trade all those expect Tsatas and Bryan as they are young enough to improve further.
It’s the other group of guys that have been the problem year on year, plus I’ve got no doubt once that group are injury free Brad brings them straight in and it’s straight back to old habits

See if we can poach a couple of the klans youngsters. Sid Bottom and young Pendle Bury.

It’s all good to throw up players for trade but we’re trading back into a weaker draft where a 1st rounder could be in the 20’s, and a 2nd in the 30-40’s. It’s not like we’re going to trade a Parish and get pick 6 for him. Not of those players will get us a top pick

You don’t have to trade for 2025 picks.

True. I don’t think it’s ideal to be constantly pushing picks back rather than bring forward though.

When TAS get their GWS-style concessions and pre-listing b.s, we need to be ready to pounce.

Yep. There’s obviously a lot of Harley talk but if that doesn’t come to fruition then you’d be thinking our 2 2nd rounders would be moved on given the range of Huss and Sweid. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out, whether that’s done before draft night or on draft night. Package up the 2nds for another 1st…taking in 3 x 1st rounders…plus Huss and Sweid

We will need points to pay for them as well.

Did i read Gold Coast need to get rid of a first rounder? Should we be after this?
Gonna be a very interesting darft and trade period, hope we are aggressive!

I think the challenge is they need to get rid of it as it would be eaten up by NGA points otherwise. So they are essentially looking for a stack of later picks or to get out of the draft this year in favour of next.

We are in a position where we also need late picks for points for our NGA players so unless we traded next years first for their first this year or something then I’m not sure we are in the best position to get our hands on it

If WC had picks 1 and 2, which the AFL will definitely orchestrate with Allen leaving via FA then I can’t see CDT not going to then at one of those picks.

They have needed a ruckman for some time now and his style would work for their limp midfield

Im seeing flash backs to 2 yrars ago. Expecting to read at trade time.
Geelong has been given Gold Coasts, first rounder and Matt Rowel with Gold coast paying his entire salary.
Just waiting for the AWFL to sign it off.

Cleary saying that Geelong have flagged going after both Harley Reid and Butters in future years. Saying they’ve got the salary cap space.

Weren’t they supposed to get a fine for breaching it??

Theyre genuinely are a bunch of AFL endorsed cheats

Great player but 1.4 a year for 9 years wowsers. That would have to be their cap space gone surely? Big deals for Kosi, Petracca, Oliver, May, and Lever.

Wasn’t the only supposed breach an AFLW player’s car not being declared? In other words everything swept under the rug by Hocking and Dillon.

Ah yes, another by-product of the wonderful anti-equalisation conditions created by the AFL stretching all the way back to when they first introduced the northern expansion teams.

I think they realised all too late the damage to the AFL that resulted from The Saga, due to choices made by the executive.
Since then they just clamp down when a drama occurs.
