Not much of a benchmark. I think the suns are the only team that haven’t been closer to success than we have got during that period, and they’re a good chance to sort that out this year.
yes they will whinge.
Opposition fans that is.
Yeah, I guess to expand on my point is that Franklin helped keep Sydney relevant by helping with sustained competitiveness.
They can’t afford to be like us.

Picket actually plays and is a top player in the comp our long term deals are dead set average players who are severely injury prone

That is some really good gear you have been smoking.
I know he’s contracted but the chances of Tsatas looking for more opportunity elsewhere are surely becoming more likely by the week.
If we end up keeping our current draft hand, I’d want him to be part of a trade for another player (eg Bergman), otherwise a future first, instead of loading up on more picks this year.
If we have two firsts again next year, it keeps us in the play for someone like Reid or another top end talent via trade (if we can’t land anyone this year).
Or we just keep him and find a way to fit him into our long term midfield mix.
My frustration is that his lack versatility was a huge knock on him at the draft.
I had a lot of disagreements with @ the_don about this, leading up to the draft.
It’s good and well to continue bringing up, “but he’s the best available, you just take him”, but if that player doesn’t fit into your team or system then it’s a complete waste. There was plenty of players there who fit a need who werent that far off Tsatas’ quality, who fit a need for us.
Again, it’s likely another wasted first round pick. And a top 5 pick at that.
When Tsatas fixes his kicking and improves endurance he will be a damaging midfielder and Wingman.
Great. So we picked up a player with massive detriments to his game, who was touted as ‘best available’ with pick 5.
This is the crux of our list management problems over 20 years.
I remember when people use to winge that we never draft pure midfielders and always want to try and turn flankers into mids. We’ve come full circle now wanting our mids to be versatile again.
Going to the Saints would only guarantee financial success. They’re further away from winning a flag than us and that is saying something.
Tsatas is not and never will be a winger. He’s a burst athlete like Shiel or Parish. Which means low game time.
The Dodoro special.
You want some talls? Ok let’s draft a bunch of them at once. You want some midfielders? Let’s spend all our picks on midfielders and not think how they will fit in together
This is where some are a little short sighted. Fitting an immediate need is (obviously) not the same as fitting long term. You’re hopeful when you take a player you’re going to get 10-12 years of footy out of them. You’re not drafting a player for 1 year where their path to playing time is clouded by established players, plus it’s dire if you’re expecting any meaningful contribution until year 3-4 in the system anyway.
Didn’t fit an immediate short term need? Maybe. Probably fits a need in 4-5 years when we cycle those established players out of the midfield though.
How he’s developed and been dicked by Brad is another conversation, though.
