Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Yep, Ridley is actually a good player. BnF winner and capable of AA.

And he’s absolutely worthless as he’s never on the park.

All the absolute bullshit that’s spouted here about Redman.

When he “was going to Adelaide to be near home”, we just couldn’t afford to let him go.

Admittedly he hasn’t been as good since the contract signing, but still…

Tells you more about the club’s mismanagement.

Saying that Redman has never been that good is bullshit?

I think I’d say he had one objectively good season and since then he has been average to below average.
I think it’s a very fair assessment of him as a player.

2022 draft:-

Pretty well 8 out of the top 10 draft picks were well known before the day…Gold Coast - Humphreys, North Sheezel and Wardlaw, Hawthorn McKenzie etc etc.

Essendon and St Kilda - well, St Kilda will take whoever Essendon pass on, Tsatas or Phillipou.

That to me was concrete evidence that everyone else had done their homework and Dodoro was just waiting to see who slips, because he had absolutely ■■■■-all idea of how to judge a player’s aptitude for the modern game and just worked from the phantom drafts.

It also illustrates how we kept going for stodgy inside mids at later picks because he had absolutely no idea how to find them with their primary skills - kicking, pace and temperament. Just keep turning over your top picks and hope you hit one while everybody else was picking the eyes out of the draft.

How many times - we think he’ll move into the midfield.

As another example - Hobbs was tipped as pick 5, may have been for pick 5 in the game from 10 years before, but no longer and the first 12 picks bypassed him.

EAGLES HIGH FLYER ON BOMBERS’ RADAR

Essendon is expected to have interest in luring West Coast high flyer Liam Ryan at season’s end.

While Ryan is contracted at the Eagles until the end of 2026 and believed to be settled in his home state Western Australia, he’s seen as a player who could be open to a move while the club undergoes its rebuild under Andrew McQualter.

After two injury impacted seasons, Ryan has booted 19 goals from 14 of a possible 16 games for the 18th-placed Eagles in 2025.

Bombers list boss Matt Rosa has connections to Western Australia, having played and coached at West Coast as well as serving as Peel Thunder’s general manager of football operations.

Essendon could use more firepower in attack. The club is ranked third-last in points for — over 150 points less than the 15th-placed Roos — despite along with Gold Coast having played one less game than the rest of the competition.

The Bombers have two first-round picks and two second-round picks in the 2025 draft, while Sam Draper’s potential free agency departure could net Essendon another first rounder.

That makes a lot of sense. Senior injury prone player wants a trade to a club where senior injury prone players want to be traded from, because we can’t fix their injuries.

I think it’s been noted that Liam Ryan and Harley Reid are pretty tight.

The acquisition might be a part of the larger play.

Ryan, no thanks

I thought Vozzo said we wont target players over 28 turns 29 in October

Yep. Not likely to happen anyway. He would be 29 by the time that he gets here. And the club have previously specified that youth was the recruitment strategy.

The only way i see it happening is if the club want to bring him in to provide support in leadership and coaching

Consider the possibility that it is from Ryan’s manager and it isn’t happening

Sounds like trade and recruitment strategy is pretty easy - recruit Harley Reid and 40 of his closest family and friends. Mum and Dad can play in the backline if they can stay injury free.
