Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Absolutely.

I’m just sick of this club being trapped in this perpetual cycle of refusing to take it’s medicine (no not that medicine) and then getting twitchy and making a play for the next shiny thing at the wrong time and the best it does is prop us up to mid table nothingness for a handful of years until again we realise we aren’t up to it and commence another half hearted rebuild.

Harley Reid is 19 he’ll be around for 10 years plus we aren’t going after a 25/26 year olds

Tex won’t be at the Crows next year, and he won’t be at the Hangar.
Where will he be? Retired.

Spot on

What about Hawks they have 11 players from other clubs in their team.

Hawks just proved that you don’t need to hit the draft hard to rebuild a list coaching, developing and good recruiting is what has them where they are right now they have stuff all top 10 picks in their side.

The Hawks are flying because of their mental state. It’s all above the shoulders. They are confident. They truly believe. It’s THE key.

It’s not because they drafted better footballers than everyone else.

Exactly right. Go to the draft this year with hopefully a couple of top 7 picks, which is crucial before Tassie compo starts.

Hopefully Reid is out if contract end of next year and we can nab him then, if not, there will be some other elite talents available im sure.

Many think Reid has superstar talent.
We’ve had a lot top 10 picks. You can blame Dodoro.
But Parish, McGrath, Tsatas, Francis, Perkins, Z Reid, Cox…I’ve probably missed some
Some of those are good AFL players but nothing elite, and certainly no superstars - I don’t think we’ve had a superstar since Lloyd and Hird - you can argue Watson but not quite for me.
If we could turn 4 and 7 into Reid (who I think absolutely has superstar traits) I’d definitely do it.
Maybe 4 and 7 both become elite, but I’d risk that for Reid.

I think we have a team of AFL players (Ace will disagree) without the top end elite talent. Good players elevate with elite talent around them.
We do have a few holes - Prior and Menzies need upgrades and another quality runner

He’s probably off to Geelong with reid, clarry & JUH for a future 4th :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

They had a top 6 pick (before bid matching on draft night) every year between 2020 and 2023.

They didn’t just go from meh to good. They had a period of being rubbish to help them access talent to rebuild their list.

You’d go after Reid but would pull out if they demand a kings ransom for him

Butters I like but I’d prefer a player with more size, as much as I love the way he plays

Rowell would be the best of the lot but I can’t see him leaving

Oscar Allen is moving around like a busted arse so don’t see the fanfare about him

I’d rather we absolutely go to town on this years and next years drafts and amass as many high end picks as possible

Look for free agents or trades next year

Thought something had happened.
Nope. Farkheads Morris and Maclure uttered is all.

Meant a fair bit to Richmond. They leveraged the best player in the comp for 4 years

Butters is an absolute star! I wouldn’t be worrying about his size, he changes games and likely why the Port midfield is struggling at the min.

I heard last week the Dogs are favourites to get Butters (Butters being a mad Dogs fan)

I find that so interesting.

Firstly, he’s not a free agent, and we’ll have to trade for him.

Secondly, we have a lot of inside midfielders on the list, and while we are not a dominant contested ball team, it isn’t a weakness.

You look at our weaknesses and it’s pretty clear that it’s ball movement and interception , especially from defence. We’re last for intercept marks, 5th last for total intercepts, second last for rebound 50s, and last for rebound 50s per inside 50 conceded:

I know I am a broken record on this, but I am really surprised we didn’t chase Houston last year

Would you rather Houston or pick 3 (currently)

Butters is a star and really rate him, however don’t think his body will hold up long term with the way he plays and his size.

Hawks on top of the ladder, adding Reid and Allen isn’t great for the competition and would set Hawthorn up for more years of dominating the competition.
fark that, getting Reid, just so hawks don;t get him would be good.
Didn’t exactly work out when we got McKay though and they missed out :lollipop:
