Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

How many do we have?

Yep, that would have been useful of me to add.

We currently have 2 spots.

Fair call. We can also very easily drop someone like Gresh or Cox to the Rookie List (assuming Cox doesn’t retire altogether).

There’s a “trade period grading “ article floating around that gave Essendon a “C” and Hawthorn an “A”:rofl::rofl:

If there intention was to land Zac Merrett and they didn’t land Zach Merrett it can only mean one thing - that’s a fail.

The Uncle Arthur board had already issued the same directive - Merrett doesn’t leave.

More importantly - you’d hope that Vozzo / Scott / Rosa were genuinely of that belief too and not overruled by the Board position.

If Hustwaite had a middle name beginning with the letter H, I would have been “all in” on the deal.

From what I was told today from someone who usually is on the money, Welsh gave the ok to Rosa to trade him if Rosa thought the deal with enough. Rosa didn’t think it was acceptable and told Hawks to get more. Apparently Mitchell said to just give us the 2027 F1 as well but was overruled.

Hawthorn were lazy, arrogant and uncreative.

No one could tell me if they went to North with pick 9, a future 2nd and HH they couldn’t get the duursma boy to move to the Bombers.

Chuck in the 2 future 1sts and that would have been enough for us.

If true that’s pretty huge, both list managers making strong decisions, the extra F1 would have got it done I reckon. Hawks screwed the pooch!

“Throw in the likelihood of the Hawks being pretty good over the next two years, making their first-round picks likely to fall in the teens, plus the fact the 2027 Draft will be seriously hurt by Tasmania’s entry and there’s every chance the four picks the Bombers wanted would’ve been worth the equivalent of one top-three pick.”

Yep EFC being difficult yet again. How dare we ask for a top 3 pick for our contracted captain and best player.

In 20 years Blitz will probably be bigger than EFC.

I hope this is actually the case. This being Essendon, we’ll find out eventually when somebody that was involved and becomes disgruntled airs the dirt laundry.

Maybe it is being released?

Waverley isn’t Dingley.

Petroro tried to Waverley his Dingley around but got embarrassed.

I don’t get this concern? That’s going to happen every year. It seems like just an argument for not trading anyone at all. We’ll get less for Merrett when he leaves than we got offered now. That should be all that matters.

Carlton did almost the same deal for Curnow. Scary that those farks are more professional than we are.

We’ve currently got two free list spots, five if we delist every remaining uncontracted player.

No, we can’t. The rookie list is full. In fact, we’re going to have to promote rookies because we’ve got too many (the MSD added three).
