Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

As neat as Jake Rogers is, he has already had two hamstring injuries….. Hard pass thanks

Saw some report on Twitter that Richmond are the front runners for Butters - maybe because they can get the deal done.
That would give Port pick 2. Which would be completely swallowed by our Cochrane bid.

Lose Butters gain Cochrane Port won’t accept pick 2 by it self imo

Pick 2 and tigers 2027 first

Agree. I think pick 2 and 2027 1st is a great deal for Port.
Loads better than anything they’d get from the Dogs

Not a sure a player absolutely driven by standards who constantly states he wants to see success and play in finals would even be interested in Richmond currently

Probably not.
Just saying what Chris Dittmar is reporting - never heard of him.
Unfortunately for Zach he has to find a club that can satisfy Port.

Dittmar is Port tragic that has various roles in the media in SA. He does have some contacts at Port but he is nearly always wrong in any rumours he puts out there.
Port should get plenty for him but I think they might be a bit disappointed

he can just head here in the PSD as his backup plan.

This is a hot take, but i just dont see the benefit of trading out 3 of your best 5 players and another player who is young with potential.

If we lose Merrett, Parish and Ridley, we will be even more of a basket case and personally, that can’t be good for player development.

What you have proposed is bringing in another 6 or 7 18 year olds. This would further compound our list imbalance imo.

We need to start winning next year… our youngsters need to start learning how to win, otherwise the doom loop of mediocrity continues and we further risk losing our young stars to other teams.

We aren’t winning with these blokes. They are flakes who crumble when the chips are down

But they don’t/won’t want to be here…as has been reported. Plus help me understand how Parish, Ridley and Merrett are going to teach young players how to win when one shows a distinct lack of effort on field (Parish), one is perpetually injured (Ridley) and the other simply doesn’t want to be at the club (Merrett)?

we probably wouldn’t be much worse off
if we played Sharp and Hayes and Martin instead of Parish and Ridley and Merrett

out: Ridley, Parish, Merrett
In: Hayes, Sharp, Martin

b: McGrath McKay Reid
hb: Roberts Hayes Farrow
c: Duursma Sharp Durham
hf: Day-Wicks Caddy Kako
f: Wright May El-Achkar
r: HVH Martin Robey
int: Redman Tsatas Clarke Caldwell Butler

I get what your saying.
I just look at our players older than say 24, and the cupboard is BARE. Just don’t think we can afford to lose the ones who can at least sometimes play decent footy.

I don’t know how we got into this mess and fully understand other ppl’s pov but im not sure clearing our Merrett, Ridley, Parish and Tstas is the way forward.

I would be looking to clear off more deadwood from the out of contract list, plus pay out Blakiston and Jones. Then look what we can do with our supposedly $3m.

If we get pick 1 and bid on one of the NGAs, we will get an end of first round pick back. So as it stands, we should be looking at picks 2 (or 3), and two picks around 19-21. So its a decent starting position.

I’ll be very surprised if there are any trades of “natural” top 5 picks (as it stands). Club’s will lose access to the end of first round compensation that they’d get, if a bid pushed them back.

Yep, either this year, or for future picks that potentially meet that criteria.

I’m pretty sure the tigers are offering $2.4 m/yr so they don’t have to trade for him. i doubt Port can afford to match that

depends if port and Carlton hold one.

Port have been planning that this a possibility for a while and would be able to cover most bids

If the rumours are true that cats and dogs won’t have enough trade ammo to satisfy port, is there a chance we could get butter in rookie draft pick 1? Like Jack Martin to the blues
