I agree with this. But coming from you this is quite humorous.
You were advocating for keeping him last year and basically calling everyone who wanted to trade him all sorts of things.

The more I think of what is out there, how far from a desirable destination we are and the poxy B grades north traded for when they were marinating in their nadir, I think we are best just throwing an extra 400k at Neale and then a few other hard nosed senior players from successfull clubs.
Cut the deadwood from the list and cancerous senior players and load up with draft picks.
Spend next year trying to re-establish a culture and hopefully being more enticing (less of a basket case) next year for a raid at the trade table and free agency.
Saying that, the biggest benefit to finishing last is the option/leverage to walk someone through to the PSD.
We absolutely need to capitalise on that. Maybe a godfather offer to Darcy Wilson / Arty Jones?
Good that the cats are into Merrett, I was concerned when I heard the other day Merrett is sooking it up wanting to only go to a top Melbourne club again, that it would be Hawks or bust.
I also saw theyāre considering offloading Miers coz they think they might get some good draft capital back for him. Iām a big Miers fan for years now, would love him to be part of the Merrett deal with a first rounder or two.
Isnāt Miersā knee ligament bring held together by blue-Tac at the moment?
It would be nice if we could convince him to go anywhere but his heart is pretty much set on the Hawks and we all know that most players end up at the club of their choice.
As to the Cats, since Dodoro has gone they have taken over the mantle as the worst and most difficult club to trade with. I mean look at how much the Cats stiffed the dogs over a much better and younger player than Zach. Talk of getting pick 10 or 2 firsts from the Cats is just pure fantasy stuff. They would offer us something like pick 28 and a future first if we are lucky. As much as I hate the Hawks Iād rather dance with them again than entertain the thoughts of dealing with the Cats
Maybe donāt hang out in the trade thread?
The difference weād have over a north is the size of our supporter base. I imagine the player sponsorship opportunities are larger given the media attention. We could also offer larger opportunity if thereās a player keen to get a larger role in the senior team. The top end elite players wonāt consider us - nor they should. We arenāt ready.
Merrett needs to lift his game a bit otherwise hawks might offer less $$$ than last year.
For Geelong to this late enter the Merrett race tells me that Butters has indicated he wants to be elsewhere.
At the very least we can threaten to keep Merrett this time and have a bit more meat on the bone if theres a viable plan B that offers us more which forces Hawthorn to up their offer.
sounds like itās down to Dogs
or Richmond if they sack Yze and get Hinkley.
Butters calling the shots at Richmond is he now? Doesnt sound likely.
thats the rumour.
If we concede a goal it goes straight back to the middle.
Ben McKay is ahead of his time.
IMO Butters has always had Dogs as his preference, doggies supporter and they were the favourites since last year.
But it doesnāt give the communication specialists much to write about if there is only one choice.
Same with Merrett, throwing anyone but Hawks in the mix adds spice.
If Geelong are interested in Merritt, what does everyone think of Mitch Knevitt, shows a lot of promise but struggles to get a game. Geelongās first and Knevitt - good deal?
Butters always going to doggies imo
jesus christ no
ask for someone actually decent, like humphries
Exhibit A: Brayden Fiorini
either way need to wrap up this coach facade quickly so hirdy can get to work on trades and exit interviews.
I think the deal is already done in principle. Rosa and the team would have spoken to the hawks and outlined how it looks already and the cash and terms from the hawks would have already been agreed with Merrett. Should go ahead very easily.
