Talk of getting pick 10 or 2 firsts from the Cats is just pure fantasy stuff. They would offer us something like pick 28 and a future first if we are lucky.

I know they probably won’t accept it but if we get a end of first afl assistance compo, i’d happily trsde that a Merrett for Pick 10.

Don’t care about magic fairy dust points, just get the snake off our list.

Really depends on how many clubs are in the game, no?

If Hawks are offering eg 15 plus a 2027 second. and that’s where he wants to go. Then Cats (and anyone else) know what they have to pay to get into the conversation.

I do think it’s incredibly, incredibly important to buy into this draft. The details of what that looks like are much less relevant than the overall picture - we’ve got holes everywhere. You can argue both ways on one earlier pick vs two later. But we have to add something.

Currently we’re (unbelievably) also at a net deficit, thanks to the Fiorini trade.

I have little confidence in this decision if it’s in Welsh & Hird’s hands - I don’t rate either as strategic thinkers/planners.

what does everyone think of Mitch Knevitt, shows a lot of promise but struggles to get a game. Geelong’s first and Knevitt - good deal?

Knevitt will likely be delisted at season’s end. Geelong only kept him on a 1-year deal this year as they didn’t have a replacement in the back end of the draft lined up

No sure it was on the cheap, they were part of the deal that sent the AFL’s leading goal kicker to the swans.

At cats, and players would look at

*Brad Close - in and out of side can add some small foward ability

*Grian Miers - Doubt he would leave

*Oli Wilshire - looks to have some talent

*Harley Barker - liked him at the draft, assume mates with Sharp. Can play wing

*George Stevens - accumulator liked him at the draft, was delisted and redrafted last year. BBM

Accumulates in the VFL. Has played 4 games (received 1 Brownlow vote, from 2 games last year)

No but the point still stands. Most players choose a club and end up getting there.

If he was a FA we wouldn’t get anywhere near pick 2 under the current rules either. Zach would be a zero pointer this year and that puts him in Band 3 or 4 territory

I would imagine that the AFL would adjust things to suit the whole compo package.

It would be nice if we could convince him to go anywhere but his heart is pretty much set on the Hawks and we all know that most players end up at the club of their choice.

As to the Cats, since Dodoro has gone they have taken over the mantle as the worst and most difficult club to trade with. I mean look at how much the Cats stiffed the dogs over a much better and younger player than Zach. Talk of getting pick 10 or 2 firsts from the Cats is just pure fantasy stuff. They would offer us something like pick 28 and a future first if we are lucky. As much as I hate the Hawks I’d rather dance with them again than entertain the thoughts of dealing with the Cats

Having the Cats linked can help in pushing the Dawks to offer more than they want, just the threat of pick 10 and a second rounder, even if not remotely true, could push them to offer slightly more.
So stop talking it down and just play along.

When looking at what we would get in return it is worth remembering we can pay his wage which would bring in a much higher return.

Isn’t Miers’ knee ligament bring held together by blue-Tac at the moment?

Yes, but we bought a bunch of blue-Tac from Costco last year to mend our players with ACL injuries. We just needed to add a little more for Martin and Hayes. It’s holding up well for Bryan.
