Tom Morris also believes that Merrett moving to Geelong is less likely and āonly has eyes for Hawksā as an option. Hawks also believe they can get BOTH King and Merrett still.

Barker and pick 10 would be daylight robbery for a 31 year old Merrett. Iād pay almost his entire wage to get that done.

The fact he got a text from Scott is nice but more interesting is what he text back.
Disagreeā¦not daylight robbery by any stretch. Barker is coming off an ACL and has shown absolutely nothing at AFL level. He was good at U18s and I liked his highlights but pick 10 and him for a proven All Australian midfielder feels right to me. Please donāt throw the age thing at me because ALF players are more able to play at very high levels well beyond 31 years of age; it just doesnāt hold up for me.

We need to be talking to Merrett and his manager about the consequences if Hawks pursue King and Gold Coadt matches. Make him understand that if they do that they may not be able to afford him and if he wants out he needs an alternative club.
We should also discuss a three way deal with Hawks and Gold Coast after theyāve not matched. Eg. Gold Coast donāt match. Get Ridley + Hawks 2026 first and #25. We lose Ridley (salary fully paid) and Merrett and get #6, Hawks F1 and FF1. Hawks get Merrett and King for three first rounders and a second (the F1 is really a second rounder).
