Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

He was in their academy. Not such a big surprise.
He was 12 when added.

Exactly, they have been a huge part of his life

Watch us offer Joel Jeffrey $1m a season

If this was a game of monopoly, we would be the player that keeps going around landing on Chance, Community Chest, Free Parking and Visiting Jail, whist being all cashed up and passing go and collecting $200, but not having a set of properties except Old Kent Road and Whitechapel Road to invest in. We had an opportunity to get back into the game by trading Piccadilly, for Vine Street and Bowe Street to give us a set of Orange properties, but opted to keep it out of spite, because we couldn’t stand the player that had Coventry Street and Leicester Square.

Eventually, the other players will load up with houses and hotels, whist we just go around the board paying rent until we fold.

That’s usually the point where I tip the board upside down and scatter the pieces to all parts.

I’m a very sore loser

Could say we have turfed out Brad and Dodoro.

So hopefully new players are making better decisions.

Off-topic, I’m not the Walter guy either and I was neutral about us trying to lure him in, but you have to be a nutcase to turn down $1.2 million a year. You need to take care of yourself first before you take care of the club. In 10 years’ time, I have a feeling he’ll regret it.

Good. Much better prospect IMO

100%.

Never understood the appeal beyond ā– ā– ā– ā–  it we have to pay our huge ā€œwar chestā€ to someone.

Would rather we offer that cash to someone like Darcy Wilson.

According to media we offered $6m over 5 years and Suns countered with $5m over 3 years

I thought the media said 5 over 5 years but he ended up signing for 3.

Haven’t seen 5 over 3 mentioned anywhere, but could have missed it.

I really can’t see them paying almost 1.7 a year.

Holy ā– ā– ā– ā– ! Glad we dodged that.

Yeah, I suspect the $5m was for the original 5 years so you could probably guess that he is on $3m over 3 years

As above I think the media have got their wires crossed. I noticed that the ABC report now says

ā€œGold Coast had reportedly tabled a five-year, $5 million offer to counter massive interestā€

still cant believe any afl footballer would want to play for a club that has horrible facilities, no supporters and likely never will, just seems so weird that a proffesional would want to stay in that enviroment, the lure of a big club and playing in front of massive crowds every week and choosing to stay at a nothing club? crazy

I hate to break it to you but we are the ultimate nothing club.

Whatever we are, we are nowhere near the absolute nothingness of gold coast

Put every senior player on the table.

Mitch Cleary reported today (with Sam McClure):

  • Nate Caddy signed a three-year deal worth $5mil. Likely his leverage would’ve increased some more if he left it, but Caddy wanted to send a positive message and back the club in a time of need.
  • Regardless of his connection with Hird, Merrett will still want out at the season’s end. Merrett’s desire is to win a flag and doesn’t work with his timeline.
  • Bombers are still in the race with Lachie Neale but Collingwood are the favourites. Any lure for Essendon would be financial and with a lesser extent that ā€˜aura’ of a Luke Hodge legacy.
  • Hawks have picks 16, 26, 27 and 34 and going after Ben King. If Suns match, will force a trade which is Hawks still need something more to get a deal for King across the line. If they don’t match (and at this stage of the ladder), Suns would have pick 6 in compensation which is where King was originally drafted at and probably isn’t worthwhile. Jack Scrimshaw is being floated as an option for trade value, along with others in Calsher Dear and Mitch Lewis.
