Reckon the club is chasing Wines hard club has been a big fan of his for years
Nick Gieschen from Elite Sports Properties
Not Connors company
Looks like TLA acquired Elite Sports Properties, Australian arm lead by former pie Craig Kelly.
Wines just needs to listen to his brother for direction.
Would this years first+2019 2nd+Francis for Wines?
More than size, more than speed, what our midfield lacks is composure and class.
We donāt have Rolls Royce in our midfield. What we need is a guy like Burgoyne who can do it all but who, most importantly, is composed under pressure and just executes well. I reckon Zerret and Langford have both shown potential in this regard but id really likely to see someone setting the standard. They are admittedly hard players to find.
Wines and Tyson both have issues with their kicking imo. I donāt think contested ball is the glaring weakness in our midfield that some see it as.
No to Francis leaving!
Heās going to be a star!
I agree but if he gets us Wines I would be ok with letting him go.
I wouldnāt.
Youāre a fool!
You were also ok with giving our first pick for Stringer last yearā¦
There is some very highly rated SA players in this years draft apparently. If it came down to it our 1st rounder will be seen as very valuable to Port.
Draft was commented on that so deep for talent you could get arguably pick 1 worthy players right down to like pick12 or so.
With the way Francis has responded this year doubt the club would put him back up for trade and he still has another year on contract anyway IIRC.
Iād trade anyone on our list before Francis, Iāve never wanted a player to succeed more than him.
simple, yet effective insult.
Bonus points for spelling āYouāreā correctly.
Wines for First round + player - redman, bezerker, Houlahan we got a few SA boys if they want to go home. Not sure i want to lose them, Bezerker and Redman starting to look good.
Iām a fool yep ok.
Harsh on nino. It wonāt come to that and Iād prefer to keep franga, but fk me if Francis going meant Ollie wines, youād be an idiot to not do it. Ollie wines is the best young inside mid in the game, arguably Cripps is as good but you get my drift. Wines wouldnāt come cheap and rightly so, you need to offer talent to get talent and Iād offer just about anyone to get wines
Fk me our midfield has been sh*t for a LONG time and if getting THE BEST YOUNG INSIDE MIDFIELDER in the game meant franga going then so be it. People cry and cry our midfield is so bad, yet rubbish the suggestion of Francis going to get a A grade elite midfielder. unreal. Guys like wines win you games of footy.
We need to recruit/develop contested ball winners⦠and the stats suggest the bigger the mid, the better they are at contested ball.
afl.com.au "Only one team ā Geelong against West Coast in round three ā out of 30 this year has lost when it won contested possessions, disposal efficiency and pressure factor in the same game.
That equates to 96.7 per cent of the time, the highest winning percentage from the stats three-pack in six years."
In order of leading contested ball winners:
Cripps 1.9m
Fyfe 1.9m
Mitchell 1.81m
Oliver 1.87m
Cunnington 1.85m
Macrae 1.91m
Neale 1.77m
Kennedy 1.88m
Greenwood 1.91m
Grundy 2.02m
Dangerfield 1.89m
Parker 1.83m
Yeo 1.9m
*Heppell 1.89m at 25th best.
Barring two freaks, the top 12 contested ball guys are over 6ft. Our under 6 foot mids are Smith, Zaka, Parish, Merrett, Tippa, Raz⦠a fair percentage of our midfield. Our best contested ball winner is 6 ft 2. Overall, we have a pretty lopsided ratio of smaller good ball users vs bigger contested ball winners.
I would let redman go simply because we have a fair bit of good prospects in that position. Zerk has potential and we need someone to replace hooker/hurley in the future so Iād like to hold onto him.
