Trade Targets

That would be the same for most prospective recruits that are playing in the VFL. Wallis, Miles, etc. blitz loves them.

Expect Wallis is a better player and would have am inmediate impact on the side. Clarke hasn’t show anything at AFL level to say he’s better.

You don’t see anything that Wallis offers over Clarke?

Have you actually seen Clarke play?

People pinning a lot of hope on a bloke who was pick 60 odd in the draft.

have you apart from the televised afl game?

Makes absolutely no difference where you were taken in the draft. ZERO.

there are a few running around in the AFL who would agree with you.

I’m all about this.
If he was fit we would’ve had two x quick two-way runners through midfield!

I don’t think it is either.

That is correct.
Out of interest…
What month was he born in?

Who hasn’t beaten up our mob!

Not sure how much room we have in terms of our salary cap, however, I reckon we should make a solid play for Wines (right now) & bring him in from 2019.

Given his likely price, we could also draft James Battersby from Sturt. He is 22 (?), another mid bull, & placed 3rd in last year’s Magarey Medal, despite missing the first seven rounds due to injury.

Then, target Dylan Shiel next year. Flag in 2020.

Wines, Shiel, Battersby, and possibly a few other cheap options, plus our current crop.

Honestly reckon pick the best top end talent in a supposedly great draft this year, and Schloithe and Grigg mid way through. They could revolutionise our list more than selling the farm for a trade. Look at Tim Kelly. And he ran second to Schloithe in the Sandover.

Full disclosure haven’t seen Grigg, going off stats and @aceman

Wines isn’t worth 2 1st rounders IMO. It’s not like we are getting a Patrick Cripps or Clayton Oliver.

We need more than Wines to be premiership chances so let’s keep our 1st rounders.

Hang on - where’s Wines in there? Isn’t he ā€˜the best contested mid in the game’?

Edit: catching up - it’s been said a few times.

@is_good_is_don … Is that contested possession list based on raw numbers or averages?

If it’s just numbers then not factoring in Wines has had a bye round when all clubs haven’t bar GC

The overrated calls for a player Port are lining up to be their next captain are way off mark IMO

Have a look at the below.

Whilst contested possesions aren’t as high, totals are. He’s an inside bull who still gets involved in outside play and linking up.

Interestingly Cripps also plays almost 15% more game time. Tank related or Port just rotates more as has more inside help perhaps?

The dude is obsessed with height/weight. Reckons every mid needs to have a Pat Cripps/Nat Fyfe build to be effective. Stated he wouldn’t be interested in someone like Dylan Shiel. Keeps banging on about inches/kgs. Would make a decent ā€˜ā– ā– ā– ā–  actor’ or ā€˜sumo wrestler’ scout.

Ivan fairly much summed up our needs - For me it’s Wines and DeGoey - The best fit of all would be Beams, though doubt he will leave Brisbane.

The point @ivan made - which I agree with - is that we need to focus on mid players who have decent skills - preferably by hand and foot. In other words, ā€˜distributors’ & ā€˜link up players’. Size has nothing to do with this. Sam Mitchell (da flog) was a classic example (in recent times) of such a player. Focus on ā€˜smart’ players with decent skills, rather than simply giant mids being lauded as the ā€˜future’ of the game. Saying that, I would still recruit Wines, but also go after others - with better foot skills.

If we could manage to land wines and gaff (doubt it) that would make us top 4 imo
