Yes
Nothing so deep.
There’s a 15 min wait on the Madelines at Cumulus. yep - that’s it.
Ha! I also thought you were referring to Proust there
Basically, the players are doing a lot of running interspersed with skills that are focused on short sharp passing and then some match sim.
The general kicking skills, as judged by hitting the intended target, is not great in my opinion. Too many 20m passes do not hit their target. As I’ve stated in the reports, the players are being worked hard with running to fatigue them and then are given a drill that involves short-sharp kicking (and some handballing) without any time for recovery.
This is what I believe is being practiced - pass the ball when you’re stuffed and let’s see if you can hit a target then by foot. The players, as a group are ok at this but not great at it. They miss too many targets.
It even applies to kicking for goal today: 2 x 200m sprints immediately followed by goal kicking immediately followed by 2 x 200m sprints immediately followed by goal kicking, etc. There was no respite. The goal kicking wasn’t that bad i.e. no shanked kicks but a lot kicks at goal drifted to the right because of the wind because the players didn’t allow for the wind in their fatigued state. Not an issue playing under a roof but an issue at the MCG.
Good question.
It’s actually hard to tell without genuine match practice but Begley, in the two sessions I have seen, has spent time with the midfield group as much as the forward group.
McKenna occasionally has played a forward’s role in some of the drills, but seems to play back in the match sim.
McBride looks likely to be used as forward based on what I saw today.
Right now, the emphasis seems to be on getting plenty of km’s in the players leg and practice certain scenarios in drills and match sim. We will get to see proper match practice through January and we will get a better idea then.
Would love Jakey the AA to come out for 2020, looks slimmer to me so hopefully fitter again. Still think he’s a top 10 talent in the league
mmm lemon curd…
Parish looks in ripping shape. Hoping for a big year from him
Long been said that the best sides training drills are near on flawless
Cats team during their flag years supposedly barely ever had the ball touch the ground. I’ve watched West Coast train before when over here a few years ago & saw similar.
As I think Bomb Doe mentioned. If we get that part right would help us significantly as we continually undo our good work with poor disposal.
Our training skill level is nowhere near good enough and only gets worse under game day pressure.
Harvey on Daniher - gets there very early and is one of the last to leave from training
Lid off, we are gonna win the flag, it’s obvious, i won’t be disappointed
Love the part about practicing simple skills when exhausted, just needs lots of repetition to master. Great to see us training the way we will need to play to be a top side
So do opposing teams. Thats why 3 opponents tackle him when he gets the ball.
We have been doing this at hockey pretty much. 2km time trial/ sprints then hockey simulation then suicides then hockey. To get used to playing fatigued (later on in games) usually the fatigue sets in and the skill drops off. By practicing and doing this/getting fitter youll find your skill wont deteriorate as much when fatigued. Im actually glad theyre doing this. It is pre season for after all. This will help immensley.
Chaos ball?
I’m glad we are focussing I’m skills this early. Our turnovers destroyed us this year. Too many time we shanked a 20-30m kick to the opposition or put a teammate in a compromising position to get hit.
Fix that alone and we would be a 2-3 goal a game better side.
The bouncer at the local told me the same thing.
