Jones didn’t look super bulked, but again not the skinny kid anymore. He should hold his own in marking now. Looks very fit. Ran all drills no problem.
I only briefly saw Ridley run some laps, then he was back indoors. Not sure on deal with him, Langford, and Shiel. He didn’t look injured though. Looked the same as ever.
I will say he was covering the ground very well. If he can nail the roaming marking forward, then he will be useful. Given Wright was training on other stuff, in the drill were they had to kick to a leading forward, Jones was picked.
I was surprised with Wright. He was running drills at a fair clip for quite some time. Impressive given his size. Can tell he has great work ethic. Goldstein was the same, although he wasn’t as fast as wright, but could tell he was absolutely professional with his training.
Probably been 18 months since I have seen anything Essendon. They looked good. The regular training watchers could probably pick differences better than myself though.
Thank you. It’s great to have different views to complement those that go regularly. Not having weekend training means I can’t go until January. Looking forward to having a look.
He was near front in running drills. Solid boy. Hope he improves his goal craft next year, so he can be lock. Would be fun if he and Gresham form a lethal combo.
Yes this comment is from afar and don’t have access to all the variables and nuances yada, yada… but…If that were the case then it would seem to call into question his preparation. If he didn’t have the conditioning at this point it’s bizarre because conditioning is all he was doing for the last 9-12 months. He’s done endless amounts of running (straight line, change of direction etc) and would have been in conjunction with a strengthening and weights program too.
We took the ultra cautious approach last year which I didn’t mind seeing as he’d done 2 ACL’s as a youngster but to hear that come late Nov '23 that he’s still not at a point where he is joining training with the group (even for half the drills) is surprising and a bit disappointing. What has he been doing since the players began their leave in early September that would have him not conditioned enough?
It feels like there was probably some sort of setback/soreness or something for him to still be on light duties 21 months post ACL tear.
I think this is what has been holding us back all these years. Too many Essendon People sit back all comfortable and don’t do the hard yards to make essington great again (MEGA).
Any idea when they finish up for the year? I knock off work on the 15th Dec and want to bring my 6yo to a session. Would they still be going on the 19th?
With ACL’s a 2nd rupture soon after the first, is either terribly bad luck, poor rehab after first reco or poor 1st surgery or combination of the above.
In all likelihood after 2nd reco the rehab would be a lot more conservative.
So long story short its going to be a slow build up to full fitness of the knee.
Think like Baldwin. Prob took him 2.5yrs after 2nd reco to reach fair match fitness i estimate.
I don’t know what is going on with him. This may not be a popular opinion, but I wasn’t impressed with his condition, regardless of coming back from injury. Other ways to stay fit with knee injuries. Unless of course, there is something stopping him from doing any conditioning for some time. Guess we will wait to hear from the powers of EFC. If we do.
