Training report - Monday 14 December 2020

Back when lance whitnall was at Carlton I lived in Northcote. One day I was in high st and saw him come out of a bakery with a pie in each hand. True story.

From Windy Hill to Windy Planes mate.

It’s probably worse out there at this point with bugger all structures or wind breaking trees around it yet. Maybe the new extensions will help a bit, but anything from the South or East really canes through.

That’s the direction the prevailing wind comes from in winter.
We should have built the structures on wheels so they could be seasonally positioned.
And to match whatever ground we’re playing at next - eg the GWS gap, or the Launceston hole in the stands.

Melbourne Airport wind rose: summer is more variable than winter. There’s also a reason both airports have a north-south runway.

Unfortunately the BOM don’t generally provide wind roses within Melbourne. However, take it from a boomerang thrower that Melb Airport > Essendon Airport > Melbourne CBD (and of course Tulla only has a building/stand shielding the SW side of the ground).

Hang on, surely if you can master windy conditions you’re going to be elite when there is no wind. And other than about six or seven games at Marvel the rest of the season is played in open air stadiums.

The kid looks cut already, skinfolds no problem there.

I should stand in the outer as an assist, I’ve been told that I’m very good at breaking wind.

Great. He looks in ripping nick. I couldn’t really imagine much of a better build for someone his height. .

Now let’s hope he can actually play as well as he looks.

I know that Cox prefers back, but I have the feeling that he will be groomed as wing - chf even, depending on how Stewart goes. Reid & Brand pillars at the back.

But not Mark Mercuri or James Hird

@nackers, what’s your take so far on Ned Cahill? In the photos he’s still looking short, of course, but he’s also looking really nuggetty. This year I thought he showed flashes of real promise, but was just too lightly built to make an impact. I’d love to think of him as a Darren Bewick-type player: the one who annoys the craap out of the opposition because he keeps getting the ball, burning them off with pace, then kicking goals. Fantasia should have been that player but couldn’t keep himself on the park; it would be great if Cahill could do it.

Don’t believe it. Three pies in each hand I would believe.

Three pies in each hand???

I miss Jay Neagle.

I am really looking forward to these preseason training reports from all the guys who, with my eternal thanks, head to training and update us all with their insightful observations.

The one thing I am speculating on is our game plan. Surely the influx of talls will see us developing a much more direct game style rather than a high possession, high handballing strategy. Quick ball movement by foot to tall marking options with smalls on hand to crumb.

I would imagine this style would be a hell of a lot easier to implement than the rubik’s cube craziness of 2020

Thoughts?

Not sure if just saying it in a different way,, …but the buildings shield the West side, and Sth West corner. (Which makes sense, given most of the crap weather comes from the Sth West)

SE side is open to the mercy of the Weather Gods.

I agree.
You’d like to think that the game plan will be adjusted to suit the stature and abilities of a redeveloped team list.

Sorry, SW.

Well there’s the perfect dovetail.
Blitzes stand in the SW corner watching training, swilling beers, eating pies and breaking wind to benefit the player’s training conditions.

BZT does look a lot bigger.
