Training report - Monday 14 December 2020

We seem to get worse as the season progresses. Not sure if kicking to bluster is good for anything but party tricks. We don’t look confident or flowing much anymore, more like careful and pausing to read the currents. But whether it’s weather or something more intrinsic, no idea. Also our home ground is literally a dome

Very true. Worsfold was often away for the early parts of the preseason.

Happy to see Rutten driving them hard now.

Part of the learnings.

I thought they said Reid was from Leongatha, rather than Inverloch. I’ve got a few cousins emigrated to Inverloch.

That was great, so many new fresh faces, might be just me but just feel like the SAGA is now a memory instead of stigma. We certainly have a young list now, with experience in the mid, hopefully these new guys get on the park a bit this year and have some input.

Not expecting miracles, but sensing a new batch of Baby Bombers, was trying to keep expectations down for next year but seems a lot to get excited about.

Go Bombers! and thanks for everyone posting training reports.

@nackers - what’s Caldwell’s size like? How does he compare to say a Parish?

In Melbourne, in winter…the southwest would seem appropriate

Edit: way late to this discussion.

l am interested in seeing how young Johnson progresses. At the moment all eyes are on our shiny new draft toys, and they are generating a lot of excitement, but l want to see what Johno has to offer. Hopefully it is substantial.

Can I ask if there is any particular reason Hird is in the modified group.

Cheers.

I really like Cahill and think he showed a lot of promise in his early games but he’s a very different player to Fantasia. He doesn’t have anything like the pace Fantasia has but what he does have is excellent one on one bodywork, partly because of his stronger body.

He’s also really applied himself to getting into the best possible shape before training commenced. He has this funny habit of being third just behind the leaders in nearly every running drill I’ve seen.

But being a small forward is a tough gig, particularly without that burst of speed. I hope he makes it and I’m sure he will leave no stone unturned to give himself the best chance of success.

He’s taller than Parish (6cm according the the bios) but not as solid. Parish has been in the system a lot longer and has become quite solid in the upper body. I think given another couple of years Caldwell will probably be also bigger physically and a very good size.

What profiles?
Everything I can see has Parish 181cm, Caldwell 183

Caldwell looks like he’ll end up reasonably nuggety, but certainly not big.
