The other element is the odds are always that some don’t work out. Given where our midfield is at, over-investing in talls wasn necessarily a bad move.

Agreed. With the addition of Baldwin to Cox, Reid, Brand and Eyre, we shouldn’t need to spend draft picks on talls for another 2 years. It sets us up perfectly to focus on talent around the ground.

Taking Reid in that scenario would only happen if he’s seen as a probable elite player. Considering Dodoro’s track record with drafting key position players, I’m optimistic.

But that doesn’t change the fact that I was a bit stunned on draft night when we took 4 talls from 5 picks. Was a completely left field move.

Oh, agreed. Not what I was expecting. Of course, Cox turning into a winger also changes the equation. I’m not convinced the recruiting team knew that would happen.

Sounds like the players are on camp Monday and Tuesday and then have the rest of the week off (Harry Jones stated in the SEN interview that the players would have 4 days off over the Aus Day period)

Cox playing wing was pure luck. We knew he was talented, but debuting off the wing at 200cm is absolutely random chance.

Cox and Perkins basically playing a full season each was lucky, given they both had not played much footy the previous year due to covid, plus you would expect Cox’s slender frame would take time to fill out for him to play a role as a tall. But yeh, slot him on the wing, and he went close to wining the rising star.

I’m less concerned about where he debuted versus what he was/is seen as long term.

I also found it odd Zerk was given a two year deal to 2023.
